Let me please introduce myself...

MidLifeCrisisMidLifeCrisis Posts: 10,522 ✭✭✭✭✭

After a long break, I've decided to start collecting again.

I've always enjoyed participating on this forum while I was collecting so...I'm back. :)

Over the years, I've collected

  • US key dates
  • world coins that circulated in early America
  • colonial coins with traceable pedigrees.

I had the most fun collecting colonial coins with pedigrees and I think I will have fun doing that again. So that's my collection focus.

By the way...Pedigree vs. provenance...I know the difference, but pedigree seems to still be the more commonly used term in numismatics.

One set of definitions I read said that "As nouns the difference between provenance and pedigree is that provenance is place or source of origin while pedigree is a chart, list, or record of ancestors, to show breeding, especially distinguished breeding."

I suppose that a numismatic pedigree can mean a chart, list, or record of previous owners.

Anyway, I've had a lot of fun collecting coins over the years, and a lot of fun on this forum. I look forward to more of the same.

Welcome back I remember you. How long have you been gone? :)

Welcome back and best wishes on your quest. I love when I can connect one of my pieces to notable collectors of the past. Previous ownership can say a lot about a coin. Adding your name to the history of the coin will surely thrill a future collector. Happy hunting!

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

Welcome back. I remember some pretty great early coins. Looking forward to seeing some more.

Why did you take a break? Did you sell everything or most? What prompted you to jump back in.

I sold all but one coin. The coin I kept had sentimental value only. I came back because I've been a collector as long as I can remember...guns, guitars, books. I've built coin collections several times over the years...I've never completely lost interest. I've seen some great coins become available recently and that pulled me back in. MLC, I have always enjoyed you! We have both taken breaks recently. I really enjoyed our project together a few years back. I was thinking about taking a look at that list again soon. I'm glad to see you active. B)
