Aged and darkened patina in the recesses give way to high point wear, with possible a light cleaning which doesn't detract from the deep scratched patterns and bullet holes. For the specialist.
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”
The auction description:
"A couple of slight blemishes that help to identify this offering from others. Must tilt the coin under a bright light to see any issues or light cleaning. Otherwise, well struck with ancient wear for a smooth and appealing look that is seldom seen within this series. Rare date and even more rarely offered. May be some time before another comes along with a full strike.
Most all coins that old have been cleaned at some point. I would say that it has been cleaned and maybe even a light wipe. But it has retoned nicely and is now market acceptable.

Who would clean a valuable mint error like that?
Looks 100-% original to me
If you look closely you will see hair lines from a gentle cleaning.

Nope, they were apparently worn by madams who ran brothel houses that congress people visited. The stellas were worn as necklaces.
Might CAC?
