Neat. It would be cool if it had a knob to adjust the magnification, but what do you want from a toy from the 60s?
I understand this is what they are using at all the TPG

I never saw/had one, but I remember them being advertised at the time.
Cool
See http://www.doubledimes.com for a free online reference for US twenty-cent pieces
I recall those being sold at E. J. Korvettes department stores in the 1960s. I never bought one myself.
you can still get used ones periodically on eBay - good for going through circ rolls
There's some listed now! Interesting.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I had one and it worked just fine. Never really used it and ended up selling with original box/instructions on ebay. Think I got about $30 about 10 years ago.

I never saw one until today. Odd that I never saw one, perhaps due to its price of the time made me ignore it. That would have truly been neat in the 60's. I think it magnifies very well for what it was designed for.

That is really cool and that guy is a great narrator.

I remember the ads for them.
Gimbels Department Store sold them in the 1960s. I was never a great roll searcher so I never bought one. It also had a grading picture that went with it.
I posted about this device quite awhile ago, maybe 10 years. we used the device(certainly not a toy despite the jerk in the video) to search through literally more than a Million Wheat Cents when my boss was actively buying them. he hired a retired school teacher who came in about three days a week part time, that's all Tom did. the Scan-O-Matic was invented and marketed about 15 miles from where I'm sitting!!
I purchased two of them, one as a replacement for the shop's model which wore out the two little spring steel parts that flip the Cent over. I kept one of the two, still in the slightly tattered box.
I recall them being mentioned here on the forum, but never actually saw or used one. Cheers, RickO
This is from 1968:

I had one in the 60's and used it for going through rolls. Sold it along with that coin collection just before I went into the Air Force in 1970. Started collecting hard again in late 70's and kept on after I retired in 1992. Found one on ebay and bought it (it didn't come with the other size insert cylinders but still worked fine). I had bought several thousand wheat cents off ebay and went through all them and did actually find some nice coins pretty quickly. It now sits all dusty on one corner of the junk table, ready to come out and help sort if I ever get another hoard.
Best. Device. Ever.
I'm surprised I actually got any homework done in the months after I got mine.
