The June 4-6 Long Beach Expo is Officially Cancelled

In compliance with Governor Gavin Newsom’s March 12th Executive Order to cancel all large gatherings due to the spread of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the upcoming Long Beach Coin, Currency, Stamp and Sports Card Expo. This show was originally scheduled for June 4-6, 2020 at the Long Beach Convention Center. Once again there will be no business being conducted at the Long Beach Expo during our allotted show times in June.
If you are interested in participating in the June 4-7 Long Beach Expo U.S. Coins Signature Auction hosted by Heritage Auctions, they will be accepting online and phone bidding only. A link to the corresponding auction information and listings can be found here: https://coins.ha.com/c/auction-home.zx?saleNo=1316&ic=Items-OpenAuctions-Open-BrowseAuctionInfo-071713.
The health and safety of our attendees, our exhibitors, and our staff will always be our main priority. Our hearts collectively go out to everyone affected by the novel coronavirus. It’s important now more than ever that we as an industry support one another through these tough times. We will get through this.
For the Long Beach Expo, our focus immediately turns to September 17-19, our third and final show of the year. We have a lot of big things planned and we are all collectively chomping at the bit to present the best possible show to you. Whether it be a top tier auction like Heritage Auctions, gorgeous exhibits, or the best dealers in the business, our show is looking to live up to the Long Beach standard.
Stay tuned to all future Long Beach announcements: http://www.LongBeachExpo.com.

We wish you all good health and be safe.

The new normal for at least the next 6 months, and probably for the next year barring unforeseen circumstances.
"It's like God, Family, Country, except Sticker, Plastic, Coin."
Not surprising. Much better tonality than the ANA's recent update

This is getting depressing not going to any shows. Will hang in there in the mean time
Since California in person classes are
cancelled this fall, I would say the chances of a Long Beach Expo
happening in September are less
than Zero Per Cent
Based on what is still going on, this is like saying the Arctic Ocean is a bit cold for recreational swimming and has no beach bars.
Need comprehensive testing and tracking if we hope to see a September show.

CANCELLED !!! I knew that was coming...
And 3 more months of "stay at home orders" ??? Hmmm...
I hope the Canadian border opens by August. Since coin shows are out I hope to at least catch a few Walleyes.
The right thing to do even as painful as it is.
Inevitable. Even if you pressed against good judgement, and held the show....attendance would be so badly impacted that nobody would win anyway.
We really need some sort of week long super online event. Something where all the dealers have an online presence on ONE website, they are LIVE and can answer questions, make deals, and put customers in queue. Online seminars and the ideas can go on and on. BYOM.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
The ANA's additional response to COVID-19? Fire four staff members. Knowing what staff get paid to work at the ANA (which is a bargain), it's not a huge sum of money for the organization and I bet if they tried, they could have found the savings elsewhere. Nothing quite like firing staff who are dedicated to your organization ... especially in the midst of rising unemployment and economic uncertainly.
See http://www.doubledimes.com for a free online reference for US twenty-cent pieces
WOW! That is disheartening.
Wonder if the ANA applied for and received a Paycheck Protection Program loan to try to pay their employees for at least a couple extra months?
Unless they let that staff go so they could get on unemployment... seeing many businesses here in California doing that as low-wage employees can get more on unemployment right now than when they were working... crazy.

Also, about time Long Beach finally made their announcement... even though everyone has known for quite awhile that the show would not take place. I mean the announcement itself says the decision was based on the Governor's order from two months ago.
Hopefully the dealers and attendees will get more advance notice than 3 weeks when the September show is ultimately cancelled. Hope I'm wrong... but don't bet against me... this is Los Angeles County...

They likely had very good reason to wait as long as they did, before making the announcement.
Mark Feld* of Heritage Auctions*Unless otherwise noted, my posts here represent my personal opinions.
Contractual obligations with the convention center were probably an important factor.
This will boost internet coin sales big time! I hope they can all take good photos!
Perhaps an enterprising dealer or two could open a thread here or the BST to serve as an 'Online Coin Show'....Or even our host might make a special forum for the duration of this situation, that allows for focused show and sales of coins, to make up for the lack of shows. Seems like an idea worth considering. Cheers, RickO
FYI Heritage has been pushing their “New Coin Market” . Fixed prices. ( can make a counter I think). Probably funded partially by dealer inventory as well

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Definitely dealer inventory. I have recognized a few coins in the series I follow as being from dealers inventory

See my post above. My hope is somehow our hosts and others can go big and coordinate one website with participating coin dealers "live" for an entire week with a Zoom platform or similar where they can actually show you a coin and talk with you, and put customers in a queue. Live online purchasing of course.
I envision the home page with the list of dealers. You click on the dealer, browse inventory, then have the ability to click and connect via video with chat if necessary. Also seminars can be live streamed. A giant undertaking of course, but once streamlined everything will be in place in case it's needed again (hopefully not) this fall/winter.
Probably won't happen like this but we can hope.

Not good for this industry/ hobby if majority of us get wiped out.
1 age group. ( highest death toll)
2 travel distance and method ( special deliveries from some of the epicenters)
3 social distancing ( Planning to tango with 6 feet distance with every coin browsed?)
I guess I will be doing my buying & selling on ebay, the BST, & Greatcollections for a while...
