1848 is my favorite year for Dahlonega half eagles because of the multiple varieties and the fact that they were made from southern gold, as opposed to post-1849 issues with California gold. I would love to know where that coin has traveled and who has owned it. Thanks for sharing!

Very interesting old gold piece.... Certainly has some stories from it's 172 years of service....Cheers, RickO
Nice score and yes what tales it could tell
I would be a proud owner also. Glad it's in good hands. In fact - it looks like it went thru a lot of folks hands!

Odd wear pattern. Do 1848-D $5 have strike issues that would account for the pattern of wear?
Nice! Congrats!
