Oak Island coin find

lavalava Posts: 3,286 ✭✭✭

Last week's teaser suggested the gang has found a "coin," and we got a quick glimpse of it. It may be a token, and it is technically probably not a qualifier for U.S. Coin Forum, but that aside, did anyone recognize it? It will probably be identified next Tuesday, but this is only Thursday. :D

I brake for ear bars.

"Stretched out way too much" is an understatement. (The coin they found will probably turn out to be a rare corroded Lincoln Memorial Cent "error". They will then have another full season trying to find out just how it ended up on Oak Island.)

    All glory is fleeting.

Maybe it was a "Templar" Ferry token good for "One Way" passage!

Has anyone ever looked on google earth? If they are really doing all they show on the show they are spending a sh*t ton of money!

I saw it and it almost looked like a bi-metal coin. Gold center with silver outer ring.

I agree, it looked like a typical Canadian "toonie", imagine if they found that 200 feet deep! Ha Ha!

I wonder why they don't show the 1600s Spanish copper maravidi found in the swamp during an early season. It still had the sandy patina in the crevises. Amazing how the patina stayed intact and the copper didn't corrode in the swamp. It truly must of been a special Templar coin to have no managed to avoid any sort of environmental damage. That's proof for me ;)

That's what I thought I saw as it flashed on the screen in a blur, but I am unfamiliar with when bi-metal coins were made to have any sense whether this find supports any of their theories on rewriting the history of North America.

More like Joke Island. Idiots have been tearing it up for a long time and have nothing to show for it, but stories sold and teevee programmes broadcast.

I still can't believe that environmentally they can still be digging that little island up. Is it a private island? That show is death by a thousand cuts. Peace Roy

It seems Samuel Ball did alright. A poor slave too the richest man in the area or so they say. Something was there and whether or not it's still there remains to be seen. Yea I'm a Oak Island Junkie and regardless if a treasure is ever found I still find the history intriguing. I believe there are too many unexplained truths to be dismissed, Ie. Roman numerals, coconut fibers etc.

I dropped an 8 Reale in the hole in January. 😜

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

That mythical treasure was an old, old story long before the television show....Never anything found - that was reported - ;) and nothing will be found. There were articles on this back when I was young....and likely the story goes back even further....Just TV hype. Cheers, RickO

I don’t have TV Internet have to buy DVDs or Blue Ray I cant afford it with my big huge house. With the recent ongoing pandemic if I did not have this job I would eventually be homeless . :( All unnecessary cost have been eliminated except my phone which I can hot spot to get Internet access😎
Now doing my part by Hunkering Down, washing my hands, not touching my face, maintaining the Social Distance of 6’. Posted signs not answering the door unless it’s Law Enforcement or Census workers. Very strict orders by our Mayor and my Governor is very thankful we are doing our part in keeping Alaska safe. ;)
But thank you for the tip I will see when it comes out on DVD! ;)

Actually, they found bones of two different dna's and at depth so, they're already up to 8. You always kill the hole digger just ask @3keepSECRETif2rDEAD :D

A stone with strange markings, references to the Knights Templar and the Masons, pirates and Captain Kidd, water flooding the Money Pit, coconut fibers abound. I'm waiting until next season when Marty finds the alien artifact.

Yes, that could be the "one thing" with strange markings on it, found at a depth of some 90' could it be - commercial break...

Do you guys, who are making all these "educated" comments, on here really think that the real experts (museums, universities, professors etc) would allow their names to be used if their findings were not facts?
    lets hear your educated facts...
do you really think that the NS and Canadian gov would give all these permits required to even start if there was not some solid grounds.???
the two brothers who actually are funding the whole exploration made their $$ with what some of you are drinking,
wine!!!!! Now, they are legitimately taking advantage of existing tax laws to get to the bottom of an issue which was going on for a couple of hundred years or, as discovered, or even longer, and has discovered some incredible FACTS.
so??? please, lets hear your reasons for your negative responses to the Oak Island story.
Guys, it is easy to criticise....

Today is the first day of the rest of my life

YQQ I watch this series every Saturday and Sunday morning hoping they find something. I watch it because I really enjoy the nature and past history. Plus it gives me time to heal my aching muscles from the 40 hour work week. I bought the first 6 series in a set and really enjoy it. I don’t let the ya ho’s take me down even when they make fun of it. Because there only words I just wanted to give you support for your passion I feel it! Have a great night.

  • CoinscratchCoinscratch Posts: 8,681 ✭✭✭✭✭

@YQQ I'm all in and can't wait to see what they find, Just having fun with the narrating which is easy to do. What I wouldn't give to be in Drayton's shoes...

    The show cracks me up.
    "Eyes and boots"... lol
    "That's Oak Island for ya'!"
This show would be a great candidate for a college drinking game.
    "Could it be...????"
    "Wood?"
    "150 feet below the surface?"
The cheezy narrator is more annoying than an itchy hemorroid.....but yet, the show is so lame and funny it is watchable despite its staged theatrics and corniness.
