1895 S Dime, Whatcha Think

7Jaguars7Jaguars Posts: 7,452 ✭✭✭✭✭

This coin is one I've had for a while and tried to photograph it today. In hand, believe it or not, is quite proof like on the obverse with good luster on liberty, but could not get it to show.

. The plastic of the holder has a some scunge over the "8" in the date and there are some lines that are from a cloth cleaning of the plastic.
Hard to GTG, but do so if you feel like it and any other commentary about 1895 S dimes.

That is a very nice dime...I do not collect them, but that one, if seen at a show, would certainly get my attention... I have often purchased coins that are not for a series or album, just based on appearance and detail. Cheers, RickO

I definitely like it. It's very clean and doesn't have distracting elements. If you want to remove some of the scratches, the Novus 7100 cleaner kit does a very good job. I use it to prep most of the holders I photograph, and it will get minor scratches out. Deep gouges won't come out, but it can take the edges off and make them less prominent.

Since you already have one of the top 10 toughest - go for it!

Actually that's the problem (and the fun!) with all the Barber series - they're just rife with tough dates.

Based on pics I will guess 58. There are circ marks on the reverse. Nice coin.

Wow, that 58 is pretty tough there. As a hint I promise it is better than that.

Still got the reverse as worn (uh, I believe that would be a "no")? I wish I could take better pictures:

Looks like you are using a camera with auto white balance....try moving your light source a little farther away...you might be surprised if this is the case.

I may be the outlier but it is near impossible to offer an opinion from those pics

    That's why I haven't ventured a guess!

OK, fair enough. The coin was graded MS63 by PCGS, probably about 10-12 years ago. I have looked at quite a few and it looks comparable to most 64s, but probably not quite a 65 if graded strictly. I always thought it a decent coin.
