Modern Rattler? Newp from 200 year old demolition... :/
I am simply curious about your opinions regarding a newer slab making a distinct rattle. No condemnation or outcry, I am Just sharing the facts.
Against my better judgment I bid on and won a Pcgs graded coin from a “200 year old store during demolition”
The price was acceptable and low compared to recent auctions and BIN for a pcgs pr67 1941 nickel.
I bid knowing the historically curious habits and statements of the seller because to me a pcgs coin is a pcgs coin and seeing that holder gives me a great deal of comfort when buying.
Coin looks pretty good, nice tone, holder has mostly acceptable normal scratches and light wear, then we get to the meat of this thread...
the holographic sticker has been removed and the case rattles like the First generation “rattlers”
All seams and seals appear intact. Coin label looks right and barcode/cert # match up. But it literally rattles. Have you encountered this before (rattle on a blue fade to white label with barcode and scan box on back)?
I don't know how to share a video.

Well, the coin isn’t fake, and it looks like a proof. What’s your grade for it? 67 seem right?
I’ve never seen a modern holder with a rattly coin in there, but produce enough of them and I’m sure you get one with a looser tolerance than the rest.
I have a double eagle in a newer edge view NGC holder that rattles. Doesn’t answer your question about PCGS holders though.
How many of those dark spots are on the slab rather than the coin?
Looks authentic.... no idea about rattles....well, I do, but only on snakes.... lots of them here Cheers, RickO
Did it get delivered via Pony Express?
No spots on the coin itself. The holder has a bit of scratching and spotting, but the coin is great, and I like it 9/10. I plan to reholder, trueview, and try for CAC down the road.

Once the crisis is over maybe you could ask PCGS during the reholder if they can detect any evidence of tampering. I haven't heard of that seller actually tampering with slabs, but that may be a small step compared to the doctoring skills.
very nice, will like to see TruView when you get it
I've seen the hologram sticker come off when removing a sticker placed by a dealer. Possibly ex Heritage or Great Collections.
LIBERTY SEATED DIMES WITH MAJOR VARIETIES CIRCULATION STRIKES (1837-1891) digital album
Maybe it got knocked around during the demolition...
Agreed, I hate it when a dealer puts on a sticker and it damages the hologram.
I can understand once, or twice, but then to continue to damage it?
That, in my mind, is just plain dumb.
Do they really think that their stickers are that precious?
BHNC #203
I have bought old holdered coins from GC where they have put their sticker lower, as not to damage the hologram. Cant say the same for Heritage.
edit Rocco and everyone else, please dont buy from this dude, even if it looks like a fair deal.
Do not encourage this behavior.
In my most recent PCGS order, I received back a coin direct from the source that rattled, and still does.
Many rattlers lurk in the old shed. Beware!
As an update, Ill say I found A few free bonus coins hidden in the folded cardboard Mailer, some buffalo and Indian head cents. I thought this was pretty cool
