Good morning everyone,
Have any of you had the opportunity to purchase any of the Topps Project 2020 artist interpretations of iconic cards?
Beckett has an article: https://beckett.com/news/topps-project-2020-baseball-offering-new-artistic-interpretations-of-iconic-cards/
I've bought a couple of the bundles, but haven't been able to get on quick enough to purchase one of the numbered artist proofs.

I debated buying the Rivera and Clemente proofs but didn’t pull the trigger.

I was excited about this when I thought it was going to be a 20 card set. Now that it is a 400 card set at a price of $17.50 a card (when you buy both) my excitement died. That is a cost of $7K to complete. The concept is awesome - each artist assigned one card I would have bought even at these prices. Was really excited for this set until I saw how it is being executed. Think they are really cool - just too much of a good thing and too expensive per card. Even if they did 20 - 20 card sets - one for each artist for about $30 bucks it would have been better. I would have bought a few of them from the artists I liked best.
@brad31 - I agree, I have no intentions of completing the whole set. I've been buying what I like and most likely will complete the Clemente run.

Makes sense for player collectors. Getting all 20 takes on the Clemente is doable and will be a very cool set. Likely what Topps has in mind.
I was too late for the Ripken card
IMF
I saw these and thought they looked terrible. 0 interest.
There will be 19 more takes on the ‘82 Topps Traded Ripken for you to obtain.
not a big fan of the Mattingly that came out today

I'm sure they'll show up on eBay.
That Mattingly is horrific so I bought one lol.

I'm guessing that's got to be their concept? "That's so awful I have to have one!"
The Clemente in the OP is about the only tolerable one I've seen, though I question the choice of white text in the yellow background that is nearly illegible.
this "art" is just so so bad. Ripken without a face? good grief. I like the concept, but good heavens, the execution is just really bad.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
I received my first two Topps Project 2020 in the mail today. The presentation, with each card coming in its' own black Topps Project 2020 envelope and enclosed in its' own case is very nice. I know that not everyone is enjoying all the different artist renditions, but I'm more disappointed that Topps would allow such a relatively small print run to not have perfect centering.
After the first few that I have purchased, I have decided to pick up the 20 card Clemente run and I may put these up for sale in the future.

Really like the last Henderson and the ‘69 Ryan. Been some nice ones of late. The fact that Topps is able to fulfill anything right now is surprising to me - with Covid 19. On the Robinson I wonder if the centering is designed to be that way.
Not for me.
Here's my latest two pick ups... from Project 2020...I may put the Williams on eBay..but right now I like the way it looks in hand.

Does it bother you that you can’t see ‘Berto’s face??

Looks kind of like Ted has a Boba Fett mask.
After seeing what some of the other cards look like in this set, I think I’m happy with seeing part of his face.
The more I’ve been thinking about Topps’ choices on artists, the more I want to believe that this Project was more to get the artists followers to buy the pieces of art then it was for the traditional collector to purchase.

Like all art, I like some. Other's, I do not.
Useless waste of money garbage..... to me.

Not a fan at all, but agree with Brad - the Robinson is not centered by design.
Thanks,

anyone have any luck picking up any of the artist proofs?
Everything I've seen through social media says they are gone in less than 20 secs. When I look on ebay, it seems like the same sellers have artist proofs from multiple cards...I have no idea how they do it.

The 2nd Mike Trout print run was 13,200. Topps made some good change.
Apparently, bots are being used in most cases.
The 1st Trout card issued is now selling for over $200. The gold 1/1 went for $4500.
I just sold my Trout for $190.
How cool would it be to get the gold 1/1 in the mail?!

Glad you did well on the first Trout. Still haven't bought any but liked the last Koufax a lot.
anyone know when they release the next cards?
Pretty much every weekday.
Just received my 2nd of 20 Clemente's in the mail today. If you're not following @topps on IG, there are some cool cards out there and there are some not so cool...to each his own...
Here's the first Clemente in the set:

While not for everyone, I think this has been a fun program to follow.
It certainly has brought a lot of attention and discussion to cards when there is nothing going on gamewise. That's not a bad thing.
Here is my latest purchases from the Topps Project 2020. Some of these cards are going for crazy money on eBay.

Received these two in the mail today...was worried for a minute because the tracking was showing that the package was delivered to a different address.

The Koufax you posted is my favorite one so far.
I like what Ben Baller has done so far. Eagerly awaiting the Mattingly from him.

I agree... and the last Frank Thomas... the gold one.. is legit.

Not feelin it. Seems to be a fad. Ridiculous prices. To each his own
Hit the lottery today. Ordered five of this one, and this was in the last package. It was noticeably heavier than the others.
That is awesome. Congrats on the big Jackie pull.
I didn’t know there were rare parallels of these

The gold border is a 1-of-1, randomly inserted in someone’s order; there are also 20 silver border artist proofs of each card, but those are purchased separately for $199 and are typically snagged faster than most humans can navigate the purchase process. No other inserts or parallels.

This incredible!! Do you plan on selling? Those 1 of 1s are going for crazy money.
Here's an article that that ESPN put out yesterday. I thought they did a good job explaining the process.

It is really beautiful, and I would love to keep it, but I am going to sell it. I just can't justify passing up on a few thousand dollars for a modern card.
Congrats on the Robinson! These cards have sky rocketed.
Congrats on the Jackie ! Nice hit.
I think the artist for that great Jackie card, Blake Jamieson, has done outstanding work on this project.
As I stated before, this may not be for everyone, but it sure has been fun to follow.
