When I was 8, I poured a quart of gas on some corn stalks from the garden and leaves from the yard. It sounded like a sonic boom and all the neighbors rushed out only to see me shell shock with all the hair on my arms extremely crispy. Dad didn't spank me, figured I had already punished myself.

one of the reasons i really don't like feeding all the strays i do. people are all like, awe poor kitties, cold and hungry. there are so many of them.
i wonder do they think, awe, poor EVERY single creature that the cats can kill and eat and with a few dozen++ cats, i'm sure that number is rather large!!
i haven't fed a bird, squirrel, chipmunk in months since i started with the darn cats. the irony is, i preferred feeding the other animals.
for sure the cats didn't ask to be born and be wild and eat other creatures to survive but that doesn't change the fact that because the cats are in such large number outside, the enjoyable wildlife is virtually nil.
i guess on a planet with so much teeming life, it is pure inevitability that there will be rather large overlap.

A young Southern boy goes off to college, but about 1/3 of the way through the semester, he has foolishly squandered away all of the money his parents gave him.
Then he gets an idea. He calls his daddy. "Dad," he says, "you won't believe the wonders that modern education are coming up with! Why, they actually have a program here at college that will teach our dog Ole Blue how to talk!"
"That's absolutely amazing," his father says. "How do I get him in that program?"
"Just send him down here with $1,000" the boy says. "I'll get him into the course." So, his father sends the dog and the $1,000.
About 2/3 way through the semester, the money runs out. The boy calls his father again. "So how's Ole Blue doing, son," his father asks.
"Awesome, Dad, he's talking up a storm," he says, "but you just won't believe this they've had such good results with this program that they've implemented a new one to teach the animals how to READ!"
"READ," says his father, "No kidding! What do I have to do to get him in that program? "
Just send $2,500, I'll get him in the class." His father sends the money.
The boy now has a problem. At the end of the year, his father will find out that the dog can neither talk, nor read. So he shoots the dog.
When he gets home at the end of the semester, his father is all excited. "Where's Ole Blue? I just can't wait to see him talk and read something!"
"Dad," the boy says, "I have some grim news. Yesterday morning, just before we left to drive home, Ole Blue was in the living room kicking back in the recliner, reading the morning paper, like he usually does. Then he turned to me and asked, ' So, is your daddy still messin' around with that little redhead who lives on Oak Street ?'
The father says, "I hope you SHOT that SOB before he talks to your Mother!"
"I sure did, Dad!"
"That's my boy!"
A rabbi, priest, and a minister are out fishing in a boat on a big lake when the priest realizes that he has to go to the bathroom. Not wanting to disturb the fishing of the others in the boat by having them take him to shore, he gets out of the boat and walks across the water to do his business and then returns to the boat. A little while later the minister has to go also and he does the same. He walks across the water, does his business and returns across the water to the boat. Finally the rabbi feels the urge to go to the bathroom too, so he climbs out of the boat. But instead of walking across the water, he falls into the water and starts to wildly splash around. The priest and the minister finally drag the rabbi back into the boat and the priest turns to the minister and says, "Maybe we should have told him where the rocks were."
shoo wee. i hate to imagine working in a place with the type of people (type of people=people whom would make these kinds of decisions) where this would even be necessary!
edited to add: iirc, i think that getting unpasturized milk/cheese and other foods/drinks that haven't gone through the "safety" procedures and processes are illegal but quite valueable in some places of the world so maybe that has something to do with it?

Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.
