Finished my 7070 this week

OnWithTheHuntOnWithTheHunt Posts: 1,267 ✭✭✭✭✭

Posted this set a few times along the road, most recently last fall when I had one coin to go. Recently acquired the 1847 no motto dollar to complete it. Rather than try and match the look of the entire set, I decided the best way to do it with my budget was to try and match the appearance of coins of the same denomination or series. May yet upgrade a few that fall short and definitely will add the moderns and probably start on the gold page, but don't really expect to complete that section.

Congratulations on the set. I’m liking the overall look and that Connecticut half catches my eye.

Neat set! I particularly enjoy the 1909 cent and love the style of flipping some coins to accent the type.

Collecting outside of the norm. Great style. Reminds me of this antidote:

    Phase 1:
There was a zoo that decided to do an experiment.
-They made an enclosure with a ladder in the middle. - At the top of the ladder was a banana. They put 5 monkeys into the enclosure.

    • Eventually, one of the monkeys would see the banana and try to climb up the ladder.
    • As soon as the monkey started to climb, all of the monkeys would be squirted with water from a hose (which I assume is unpleasant for them) - This would happen every time a monkey tried to climb the ladder. - Eventually, the monkeys figured out the link and if one of the monkeys tried to climb the ladder, they others would pull the monkey away and hit him. - This would happen any time any monkey decided to try climbing the ladder.
      Phase 2:
The experimenters swapped out one of the monkeys for a new monkey.
Eventually, the new monkey would try to climb the ladder but as soon as he did, he would be pulled off and beaten. He would not know why, just that he was.
The experimenters removed a second original monkey and replaced him with a new one.
Again the monkey would try to climb the ladder and would be beaten, including by the first new monkey. He wouldn’t know why he just knew that he should.
This was repeated, one by one with the remaining three original monkeys. The new monkeys learning they should beat any monkey that tries to climb the ladder, even though they didn’t know why.
Even once there were no original monkeys left, the monkeys would still beat any monkey that tried to climb the ladder even though not a single of them had even been squirted by the hose.

Put together a 7070 with your style and sensibilities in mind- not what others have prescribed collecting a typeset should be.

This first part reminds me of that saying that goes something like: the higher the monkey climbs up the pole, the more people see his a$$

I’m not sure what the rest reminds me of.

Nice set! I'm jealous! I had started a 7070 set years ago, but never finished it. One of these days, I'm gonna have to go get it, and see what I did at that time, and complete the set! It's a really cool set to have and showcase!

The care and thought that went into your collection is obvious, so well assembled, i don't think "well- matched" is quite the best expression, it is diverse yet cohesive and diplays a great survey of historical US type.

Awesome pictures too! It's not easy to show a whole page so well, and reverses too, recognizing how much work went into producing this set of images.. all the clear slides appear to be removed

I have toyed with a 7070 album for several decades. Technically, it was done many moons ago, but I keep changing coins out. Now it includes a contemporary counterfeit, a token struck over an Indian head cent, a proof coin, a few error coins, a coin my grandmother gave me more than 50 years ago, etc. So, make your 7070 album an even more pleasant diversion and customize it.

Did they take out high relief 1921 Peace dollars?

Yes---look at the photos above. The 7070 album does not have space for every variety that some collectors would want. There is no requirement for 18th-century coins, or gold (a very basic set can be accommodated using a separate gold page), or a Gobrecht dollar, for example. The album designer(s) appear to have struck a compromise--keep the number of coins down, and ignore a number of expensive types. This makes the album attractive to more collectors.

    My compliments!

    Nothing more fun that a 7070. I have done 2 . . . . . and the bug still exists . . . .

So many ways to do it . .for such a seemingly simple album.

    Good job!
