This is a first for me as I mainly collect and deal in modern mint state US Mint major error coins with exceptional eye appeal.
This coin is not US nor modern. It is close to 100 years old and foreign. It is, however, mint state, with exceptional eye appeal.

As a collector of German errors I can tell you this is much scarcer that any US Mint error struck during the same time period. They may have made the same amount of errors as US Mints, but they didn't escape into circulation at the same rate. As far as foreign mint errors are concerned even bordering countries such as Canada and Mexico as far scarcer.
Broadstruck, thank you for the information.
I am very hesitant to buy any foreign error coins because I have no idea how strict or lack thereof that they are on letting error coins get out.
That said this one has exceptional eye appeal and I kept getting drawn to it until I broke down and bought it.
It is actually a die cap that fell off onto this planchet and then struck in (brockage) forming this beauty.
Nice!
Interesting error!
I don't recall seeing one with multiple "ridges" outside the edge on the brockage side.
Real nice looking error!!! ... foreign or not.
That certainly is a unique error.... Nice to have it slabbed...I can see where error collectors would definitely be attracted. Cheers, RickO
Maybe it's just me.... I have always associated "the dark side"of coin collecting to counterfeits- Black Cabinet collections. World coin collectors using the term, "dark side", for their interests, especially when posted in US Coins forum, I find confusing.
I agree.
Long time history on this forum of calling non-US coins 'darkside'. Not sure if it extends outside this forum much, but it is established history. Greyside can occasionally refer to Canadian coins. Rarely a 'farside' comment for the exonumia/medals.
But darkside is solid PCGS forum history. Not 'the dark side' though. That's on the moon.
edited to add one of many old posts (trying to find the original) https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/338186/the-true-early-history-of-the-darkside
and one from another forum that refers to the earlier days... https://cointalk.com/threads/definition-of-darkside-r.19679/
But the origin was found on the CU boards.
Nice coin.
The coin is kind of dark compared to the moderns @ErrorsOnCoins usually posts
