Which seated half would you put in your type set?

I recently picked up another example of a clipped 1853 with arrows half, the cousin to the one that has resided in my 7070 clipped type set for close to a decade. I am torn over which coin belongs in the set. There isn't an overall theme as far as condition, just that every coin is clipped.

Current coin:
The new coin is technically a lower grade but shows the error better, but because this is a reverse variety I have it in the book with the reverse forward, and the current coin has a much nicer look.
I'm curious which coin the Forum prefers, either on its own merits or for a type set.

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

Current coin and it’s not even close. Those black lines on the new coin look like rubber band stains to me.
Current because the error is on the reverse. The new will fit in your obverse type set. When I displayed my type set, I showed both obverse and reverse with all mint marks for each type, Just a little ocd.

I don't know that one coin has a more obvious clip than the other. However, I do know that the current coin appears far nicer to my eyes and it is what I would keep in the album. Of course, I suspect you will keep both coins regardless.

Current for sure. Do both of those coins have clips?

Definitely the current one. Reverse streaks on the new one would bother me too much and the clip is so minor that it almost looks like regular circulation wear.
I’d put the bottom current coin in my dansco 7070 and the top coin in my seated half dansco album.

Current coin for me....better detail all around.... Cheers, RickO
I agree and think the clip is probably about the same size. The wear on the new coin is what is making the clip more apparent IMHO.
Current coin.

For purposes of viewing the error type, I like the new coin (obverse, mainly).
For your book, since you have the reverse displayed, the old coin is much better at showing the error on the reverse.
Oh what a dilemma ... which clipped A&R Seated half to keep? ... oh how rough your numismatic life must be!
Oh ... and I bet you cherrypicked both of those, you scoundrel!

Current....not even close!
Current coin takes it all day long, the black marks and less detail of the overall coin are my reasons. If you are still torn, try splitting the difference and sandwich both coins into the same album slot.
Thank you for all the replies - I am honestly surprised how unanimous the feedback trended. Maybe I just have a soft spot for a nice mid-grade CircCam™.
Someday I'll post pics of all the coins from the album, it is about 90% complete, missing just the modern bullion and the larger denominations of seated Liberty types.
And for the record, I only cherrypicked the new coin, I paid up for the old one.

I still like the current coin, but mainly because the one with the more obvious clip isn't quite so obvious when you're looking at the reverse of the coin... and, as you said... this is a one year type that many place in the album showing the reverse side front. I like the top coin for the clip (readily apparent) but the details and surfaces of the current coin.

The current coin by a wide margin. The new one would get a “details grade” if it were to be submitted for marks and toning streaks.
As a veteran type collector, I don’t view planchet clips on a coin has a positive. It may have been part of the minting process, but does not display the design to the best advantage. I would not go out of my way to find this type coin with a planchet clip. I would avoid it if I could.
Sell both as Type Coin errors and upgrade.
I think you are missing the point Bill. Clips are the focus here. Like Varieties are for my Type Set.
I do not like the streaky tone on the new coin at all, keep the current in the book.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Yeah, but maybe a half a percent more clip does not make up for the ugliness.
I don’t mind being dense. I don’t care for 18th and 19th century type coins with clips. If it’s your second, mint error type set, fine. Otherwise, I find them to be a distraction that usually lowers the value of the piece.
I get the "dummy cap" as I didn't read far enough in the OP to see the coins are in a set of clips.
Keep the old one as it is no contest! Why did you buy the new one if you had the hole filled already? To trade?
Current for sure
Go with the eye appeal, when all else fails.
I may have not been paying attention completely but it seems to be unanimous that your current one is preferred.
