An Amazing Collecting Milestone in the CBH World!

This month a collector and member of the Bust Half Nut Club (who wishes to remain anonymous) has just added die marriage number 450 to his/her set. The final coin was the fabled 1817/4 O.102, one of only 11 pieces known. That special coin is the one that lives the dreams of many Capped Bust half collectors. Any sale of an 1817/4 is cause for numismatic celebration, but when it is the final piece of the 450 Overton puzzle, it's especially sweet.

This collector is only one of four (that's right ... four) who have completed the entire 450 Overton die marriage set. And is only one of three who can claim to currently own all 450 die marriages as there are only three known of the uber-rare 1829 O.120.

The top five Overton die marriage rarities are:
1. 1829 O-120 (3 known)
2. 1827 O-149 (4 known)
3. 1832 O-123 (5 known)
4. 1825 O-118 (6 known)
5. 1817/4 O-102 (11 known)

Gathering all 450 die marriages is not simple and requires a great deal of patience, sacrifice, study ... and luck. What a marvelous accomplishment by this collector!

The Bust Half Nut Club is specialty numismatic group for the study of United States Half Dollars minted from 1794 through 1836. The group formed in 1966 with six charter members and held the first 'official' meeting of members at the 1969 ANA convention in Philadelphia. Membership includes over 100 collectors who are 'nuts' about early Bust half dollars.

Note: I received permission directly from the collector to share his/her accomplishment.
