The new Friday post any NON-cat, NON-dog, NON-bird animal you own.

I know there must be some pets and livestock out there we don't get to see. Okay, I know you love your irresistible pets and have no self control so cats, dogs and birds are going to slip in.

I will start this off with our "pet" deer sitting a few feet from our back deck. This fawn was born in our backyard to another deer who was also born in our yard two years earlier. They will keep coming back, as we give them squash and apples in the winter, so they like our place. And we don't "own" any animals. Everything living should be free to have their lives and enjoy nature and life to the fullest.

Daughter moved away and took her horses. Miss her but THANK GOD the horses are gone.

Front yard this morning.
Never seen that one before. Very cool. Big Bryan fan.

I'm sure they're tasty too (even though it looks like a dairy cow)
It's reasonably common. CRO has one every now and then. I owned two of them at one point.

We didn’t really own this one, but it fits the rest of this thread’s title. This toad lived around our house for at least four summers (2014-2017), and liked to spend the day in our flower pots. She was extremely tame and would let us pick her up and hold her, and would let us feed her bugs and spiders. She would even sit out in places where we could easily find her so we could feed her! During the dry spells in the summer (when bugs were scarce), we would sometimes buy her crickets from the pet store to supplement her diet.
Unfortunately she did not come back in 2018, so I assume that she died, possibly due to the winter weather. She was at least 10 years old by then, so she lived a full life and eliminated tens of thousands of creepy crawlies. Here are some pictures of our late amphibious buddy:
Sure you didn't mean non-CAC ?
If you want them to keep laying, name them Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Even though Saturn and Neptune feel very much excluded here, there is something to be said for "Birds and Beast" that neither require you to spend $303 at the local vet for special cat food like I did last week, nor yet require you to change their kitty litter.
I also don't weep when they leave the nest for good.
Kind regards,
George
They are beef cows and they are mighty tasty! (especially the young ones, if I can talk my wife into every now and then)
Great post! You all are very lucky to have this deer (as long as you don't have a garden. I've OWNED pets (and they have owned me) before as their caretaker- just as you have interfered with the natural order of nature by feeding a wild animal. So, I'll get on MY soapbox and consider you to just be a "part-time owner."
Thanks for posting as your "pet" is EXACTLY what I had hoped to see in this thread!
May we please see them in action!
This is a Cooper's hawk. You probably won't ever see one of these this close. They have talons nearly an inch long and this guy seems to catch and eat a quail in our yard about every 2 weeks. He got stuck in our fence (that we have to keep our "pet" deer out of the garden). Thick gloves mandatory to try this rescue. He was unharmed and has been back many times, but avoids the fence now.

Don’t own these, but saw them in a very recent trip to Charleston, SC
another collecting hobby.
With these, one can't put them in storage and forget about them for a few months. On the other hand, getting a rare and valuable pair might lead to many more.
My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.
I really don't own any pets but I find the animals that frequent my property seem to own me so maybe I'm the pet. We have a mutual understanding that if I put up cameras they will show up for glamour shots. I have since adopted a parallel hobby of game cameras and wildlife observation.
Now that I think about it, I guess I do own a Bison.
Lucky you! Where do you live?

A welcome inhabitant taking care of an unwelcome inhabitant. I was going down my driveway to see a hawk sitting in the middle of my driveway. I was like what? Turns out he was waiting on the outcome of a king snake taking out a copperhead! Wish I had had my camera instead of my phone as the pictures aren't great. A video would have been better as that copperhead was bitting the crap out of the king snake!
Not a pet but a good picture I took in 2014.

Meet fangs ... I have had her for 22 years and she is still going strong.
With much respect to you @Insider2 , and noted in the title,
She by far has and continues to be the best girlfriend I ever had...

Not mine, belongs to the wife, but I get to buy the feed, put it out, keep the snow removed, fill the water tank. The feed costs, fuel costs, labor costs and fence work annually equal a couple of generic St. Gaudens (don't tell her I said that). The horse knows how I feel and she will probably out live me.

I have a backyard friend to boot, and she is very friendly.

LOL for me. Your exact same scenario caused me to unfortunately have an ex wife. Dem damn horses were more important than the kids and me. She went after my coin collection when we were divorcing and Dem Damn horses saved it! If you wanna sell my coins then we are selling the horses I PAID FOR!
Edit to add: I spent just as much on Den Damn horses as I did my coins...if not more.
Cool an opossum!
This is one of the coolest things in my fishtank!
This is just one frequent friend...and rabbits, and a fox, and raccoons, and occasionally some ducks visit the yard...Cheers, RickO
My wife calls them pets if they eat and poop.
