For those who thought the Reverse Proof eagle sale was messed up..

Switzerland has issued a new silver commem honoring Roger Federer, 55,000 mintage, wanted to get a couple for gifts. Today was supposed to be the issue date so I go to the website yesterday to sign up and find out they've already held an unannounced 'presale' and 33,000 already sold out. So 2 AM EST time today the other 22,000 go on sale, along with the proof version. been trying for hours now, have them in the cart but can't check out, get booted to error page....as Yogi Berra would've said 'It's deja Vu all over again'!!

buying Rhode Island Nationals please email, PM or call 401-295-3000

Wow.... an 'unannounced presale'....sounds like a bit of sneaky favoritism...I bet 'some' people knew about it....and others found it by accident. Cheers, RickO

The Swiss have always looked out for the Swiss. You don’t matter to them.

And every able-bodied male (not sure if they have broken the gender barrier yet) is issued an automatic rifle (not semi-auto but a real machinegun) that they keep at home. They also have defenses built into some of their mountains,

There is a reason why they weren't touched during two World Wars, and it wasn't the pocket knives. ;)

As far as that coin issue is concerned - I would be having flashbacks to the SE sale. I don't think I could or would put up with that again so soon after the last time.

The distributors of the “old” U.S. commemorative coins used to do that all time. The Hudson Commemorative half dollar was among the worst offenders followed by most any issue that was sold for years and years, like the Oregon Trail, Arkansas and Boone to name a few.

My attitude as a collector is to get the intestinal fortitude to say, “To hell with it; I don’t need it.” What often happens with the modern stuff that gets issued like this is that the lemmings rush to buy it at outrageous prices. Three to five years later, the prices have collapsed, and you can buy it for a lot less, sometimes even under the issue price. If you are still interested it it, go ahead. If not, then that tells you something about how important the coin or set really was.

Fifty-five thousand sounds like a high mintage to me for a foreign coin. There should be plenty of them around once the frenzy ends.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
