Coin Star THRILL..............

habaracahabaraca Posts: 2,019 ✭✭✭✭✭

A little trick to get inside the coin star machine. Went to a local machine with about $60 dollars in change.
Included in the mix were a few 50 cent pieces. Well this machine anyway, just couldn't handle a coin that large
so it hung itself up, and the 50 cent pieces did not come out. I talked to the manager at the service desk, and he said he could help. He got the keys and opened the front door exposing an absolute HOARD of silver and foreign coins laying on the floor of the machine. I tried to get some but he said he couldn't as they belonged to the coin star folks. (I have the feeling he cleaned up that little mess after I was gone). He did return my 50 cent pieces but man there were a LOT of coins just sitting there. Give it a try maybe the manger at your location might be a bit more generous.........
Also have found a thing or two on the floor under the coin-star.

This grift would probably be a cakewalk for a woman in her 20s. OP should consider an ad on Craigslist.

While I have a very strong need for collectible coins, I can keep it under control.

I'm not acquainted with any stores where the employees will admit to having access to the Coinstar machine. When the machine gets stuck, they simply pass out a telephone number to the stickee.

Cool observation! Yes, whenever I frequent any Coin Star machine, I ALWAYS check not only the return bin but several areas. Such as, on top, where you actually dump the coins. People tend to leave some gems in the dump tray. Inside the garbage can, as well as, under the garbage can. Around the machine and of course under the front of the machine. All the areas I mentioned, were at one point successful in finding additional coins. This, what you posted is just another area, thanks. There is nothing more enjoyable than to find, not only FREE money but to up the ante and find FREE SILVER! They should change the machine's name to, "Silver Star". B)<3

I have heard these lines before. I do tend to believe that rights to the rejects is part of the machine owner's contract.

I saw a guy servicing a similar machine (not a Coinstar) and he plucked a couple coins from the internal reject bin and pocketed them and then dumped the rest into a briefcase.

    Gosh that’s still funny :D

Reckon some don’t know that reference.

Wow... I have never been around when they opened a coinstar.... Would like to see that...I am sure the coinstar people keep all the internal rejects and have a disposal method.... i.e. melt silver. Cheers, RickO

My best find was about five euros worth of coins of various denominations. I took them to Slovakia and spent them.
