What would you do with this Standing Liberty in an old PCI holder?

There is clearly wear on the sash on the obverse. The strike for Type II early P dates is usually hammered. The only thing that doesn't provide full details is the shield. It has been my experience that attractively dark toned coins have built in grade limitations when submitted to TPGs.

Any professional that straight grades a AT coin such as the example above should have their credentials pulled at once. Carry on!"

Unfortunately, I know you are BEING SERIOUS this time. IMO, you <3 are 100% misinformed in this thread. :(

I should love to have you in a grading class as I could use your remarks as a foil to teach the others!

BTW, I can say with 100% certainty that I have NEVER reached/assigned a final opinion to a coin I've examined in three seconds." However, I always have a "gut impression" in less than one second. :) I cannot help it. :p

Look me up if you ever make it too the Commonwealth. I will take you to school. Regards!

I don't think I would ever travel TO a Socialist country; but I'd actually enjoy meeting you <3 somewhere in the United States of America. Wink, wink!

PS Don't you think the coin is undergraded as a 55?

Give it to me. I will be glad to make the decision for you. Problem solved.

I like it and I'd leave it as is. IMO there is nothing wrong with a little, or a lot of, toning/character ... OR another TPG slab.

Undergraded? It appears quite possibly so, but she still needs a dip.

On a side note, this is the first time I've ever heard of The Commonwealth being a socialist country. Sorry you feel that way, you would be welcome to visit anytime.

PS: we are no country just a little ole state with a bunch of unemployed steel workers and Amish farmers. Both sides have many different views but somehow decide to coexist . My American dream . Semper Fi!

It looks like it would do better than a 55 but you may want to keep it like it is.

I find that dark tarnish very ugly and would attempt some level of restoration before that gets terminal. At the very least crack it out and put it in an airtite to try and slow the process, I hate to say that as I quite like the old PCI holders. But that coin was not stored well and is headed to a bad place imo.

I quite like the old PCI holders too, in fact I scoured ebay for them back in 2006 (which was the last time I was on this forum, so please excuse my renewed newbie status). I have several examples of coins labeled as 90% or 95% white, which have since toned to under 50%. If people are interested (and my iphone will take suitable pics) I'd be happy to share them.

Welcome back! I'm sure plenty of us would be interested. You can always start a new thread with your examples.
