1857-D $2.50 NGC AU58 (CAC). Heritage Lot 5190. My first pick-up of 2020 and a ‘win’ at the Heritage auction last night. I will say that I definitely bid more than I had planned, and for an amount that exceeded the price guides (PCGS, NGC, CDN and CAC.)
Dahlonega gold pieces with nice, original surfaces are getting harder to find and this one checked all my blocks. I tracked several other Southern gold pieces in the auction and can conclude that the market is still strong in this category-based on final prices and number of bidders participating.
Anyone else feeling the sting of a stretch buy from this week?? Photos below are from Heritage.

Wow fantastic pickup, beautiful coin! That is one really impressive coin to own. I really like it.
Wow, that is a big buy. Congrats. How does Dahlonega gold fit into your collection? Are you buying by type?
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Thanks-D Mint gold is my primary collection focus. Having a complete date set in each denomination is a goal. I’m just trying to be patient and enjoy the quest, and not go broke on the way!
Wow nice coin

I think you picked the wrong specialty to not go broke on, depending on your starting point.
It is definitely an A coin (PQ) in my view.
Great coin!
Wow!
D mint $2.5's from the mid to late 50's are TOUGH!

Great, original-looking Southern Gold.
I dig the old holder with the bean.

Nice coin.
Very nice coin. I saw a complete set of $5 D-mint gold at FUN. Quite an accomplishment I chase a few with moderate success. Congrats
Congrats! Super cool pick up!

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Great looking coin. That 58 coin set of D-mints is definitely an adventurous undertaking!! Good luck!
If I had the bankroll to consider such a lofty goal I would have also seriously considered the 61-D G$1 in the same auction!
Same here! I just hope it doesn’t become a victim of a crack-out!
