Have you ever seen a rare date coin mounted in a piece of jewelry ?

I've seen several Saint Gaudens pendants over the years, no rare dates. Probably the one that stands out most in my memory is a gold Mexican 50 peso mounted in a Winchester '94 butt stock. Not a rare date but it was absolutely stunning to see.

I used to know a Florida dealer who wore a tie tack made from a coronet quarter eagle with a C mint mark.
He lost it at the FUN Show one year.
Yes, unfortunately.
Not a US coin but I recently saw a 1770 or 1771 Peru real on eBay. I can only estimate the rarity but it's certainly scarcer than most Liberty Seated dimes, the series I consider to be the best proxy among US coinage.
My 1914 half eagle ring. I bought it this way.
There's a thread about a high relief Saint mounted in jewelry.
Are you sure that isn't a quarter eagle? I've seen several quarter eagles mounted in rings but I've never seen a half eagle mounted in a ring. It's very cool. Do you wear it much?

I saw a 1879 Half Dollar that had been made into a love token.

Anybody remember the "Flying Jenny" stamp Col. Green encased in a pendant for his wife?

Given that this piece is a love token with a hole in it, I would say that it was worn as jewelry at some point.
The host coin is an 1848 CAL. $2.50 gold. It was made from the first gold that was shipped from California after gold was discovered there. Even like thiis, the piece was worth over $1,000 30 years ago.
Bill Jones just posts the best stuff.
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
They were not rare dates but the coolest coin jewelry Ive seen was a silver and turquoise belt with about 12 Oregon Trail half dollars in it
Well maybe not made from rare coins and maybe not considered jewelry but I always thought the story behind early Mexican 5 Peso coins and the Texas Rangers (Law Enforcement) badges was pretty cool.
I have seen many Buffalo nickel hat bands...and a few belts...that have fifteen or twenty or so Buffs... There would have to be a few rare one's that were included. Cheers, RickO
I have not seen one personally, but I believe they exist.

I haven’t but my LCS said that he had a customer come in with a UNC 1911-D quarter eagle. He said it would probably grade MS-64. The only thing is was that it had a giant file mark in it. The lady that brought it in said the cash for gold shop across the road did that to test the gold........
So ya

pulled a couple of 1999 W "struck with proof dies" $5 coins from a set of cuff links.

I knew a guy in the early 80's had a belt buckle with a flowing hair dollar in it.it was well worn.said he got it from his grandfather.pawn shop offered him $250 for it so we figured it was real, but who knows
Not rare ,but I have a set of cuff links with 1915 $5 in them.
My great aunt had a couple of gold dollars that had been converted into pins, one engraved "Mother", the other "Father". The reverses were planed off before engraving, so I don't know the dates, but the "Father" pin's obverse showed it was a Type II!
If that little bit causes you discomfort, do not read any further.
Encased coin manufacturers would most often use coins of a date requested by the customer (usually the current date) or a date of their choice. As they tended to use the same date coin for all the pieces in an order, current date coin rolls or any rolls they had on hand would be used. Mint marks were not important except in rare instances. I have seen two other examples from this West Virginia bank and both had 1914D Lincolns as the coin used. Encasements using a 1914 cent are not common but this is the only encased that I have seen with a 1914D 1c. From die sinker catalogs that I've seen the minimum order was either 50 or 100 pieces, so there are probably a few more that won't pop right into a blue Whitman folder.
Although this is not jewelry as such (many were issued with holes in the frame for use as key chain fobs), it's not even the worst atrocity that I have...
I have an Unc details '78-CC Morgan in an ornate necklace bezel.
Years ago someone on ebay sent me a picture of one of his prized possessions. It was an 18/17-D HOBO Buffalo Nickel that had to be at least AU details!
I once purchased a high relief twenty that had been a watch fob. The obverse was beat up from the other gold coins mounted on the fob while the reverse was nearly MS.

Of course, it's not actually a 1921. It's an altered 1924.

Wasn’t the unique 1870 S three
dollar gold coin used in a piece
of jewelry
Yes.
That's gotta be the fuggliest Hobo Nickel I've ever seen.
Maybe mine. I think I posted about one that came in in a brooch.
Removed and it detail graded.
Here's a bust half dollar, the uber-rare 1812 Single Leaf (O.110b), offered in Sheridan Downey's upcoming FUN auction.
The clumsy pin removal is a shame, with its sloppy solder remnants. How do you value something like this?
Lance.
Never remove it from the clip....way way cool
This one's on my key ring, great conversation piece..
There is a 1918/7-D Hobo Nickel floating around.......................
Pete
Shame about the coin, but coolest money clip ever.
Are you talking about the one posted earlier in this thread?

Somebody in my club bought a brooch made with an 1840-c half eagle on eBay about a year ago.
Apparently there are 2 as the 1 pictured here is not the 1 I was shown The 1 I saw was a nice Hobo Nickel.
