I am not so sure. At 77 Jones is a billionaire a few times over and considers fans to be little more than a nuisance. I think that you are better than 50-50 and probably more like 90-10, but not a done deal by any means.

    It still is not official.

""No one expects Jason Garrett, whose contract officially expires in 10 days, to coach the Cowboys in 2020. But no one expected him to still be the coach of the Cowboys six days after the team’s season concluded.

And yet he is. As noted by Clarence E. Hill, Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the long farewell continues between the Cowboys and Garrett, who became head coach during the 2010 season after the firing of Wade Phillips. If the goal, as suggested by Ed Werder of ESPN on Thursday, is to demonstrate and “abundance of care and respect” to Garrett, the paralysis (or whatever it is that’s causing this thing to linger) at some point becomes careless and disrespectful."

The Eagles have had worse coaches than Garrett. Joe Kuharich and Chip Kelly come immediately to mind.

I don't remember Joe, but Chip was bad. He is the one that wanted to always use the "hurry up" weather it was working or not wasn't he.

To lose with the talent they have is evidence the coach is sub par. To accumulate that type of talent shows the GM is a genius.

There’s a world of difference between “subpar” and “worst ever.” Dak is overrated anyway. Decent covers it.

Marvin Lewis may not be as bad a choice as you think. Compare the Bengals with him and after he was let go.

Les Steckle was horrible. He put the players through a "boot camp" type of training camp and at one point was actually punching himself in the face during a meeting to promote toughness.

Needless to say the players didn't buy in, and the team won only 3 games and Les was fired, never to be a head coach again.

Here's a question; are the Cowboys actually that talented? Seems like they could win a few more games if they were as talented as SOME PEOPLE think.

I figured you would say so, but you just MIGHT be a bit biased. ;-)

Looks like Cooper has to get consistent, he had 2 great games in losses to the Packers and Vikings, other than that he wasn't that great. The other guy Michael Gallup looks pretty good. It also looks like they need to give the ball to Elliott more.

Five of their victories came against three of the worst teams in the NFL, Detroit, Washington and the Giants. Another came against the Dolphins. They did beat the Rams and split with the Eagles.

Looks like they have a pretty good offense, but defensively they look to be about average. They had a very soft schedule, so they scored their 434 points against some bad defenses. ALL of their victories except the Eagles and Rams came against defenses that allowed well over 400 points and in Miami's case nearly 500.

No doubt they have some talent, but you can't blame it ALL on the coach. It will be interesting to see how they perform next year with a new coach. Have they fired Garrett yet?

Yeah fire a coach for a coach who never won a playoff game. Is that really the answer?

They will have to get a coach that will have total control and respect of the players and Jerry will have to STFU.

None of the coach's meet the requirement. Marvin Lewis is a JOKE and MacCarthy is just a so-so to bad coach.

  • CoinstartledCoinstartled Posts: 10,135 ✭✭✭✭✭

    Maybe Lombardi is available.

Dime, the problem with firing a coach is that you need a competent replacement.

Dallas is still a choice destination but the good coaches may not want to deal with a hands on guy like Jerry.

Sure he will throw a ton of money at any decent candidate, but so will half a dozen other teams.

Not worth a new thread but looking at past Dallas coaches, Garrett enjoyed a better regular season w/l percentage (.566) than the great Jimmy Johnson did (.550).

Sure there will be a bunch of excuses and explanations, but Johnson was the guy on the sideling cashing the checks when that had that forgettable season.

Jimmy Johnsons record was only because he came in during the rebuild. He won 2 SB's and is generally given credit for the 3rd in 1995 that Switzer won due to the team Johnson built.

    Steve

Norv Turner was a great OC for Dallas during the SB years.

OC for those teams was pretty easy though.

He didn't do much here in Minnesota despite a lot of hype about how smart he was.

Took another, this time closer, look at Dallas' current roster and don't see too much talent on defense, no All Pro/Pro Bowl players.

Most talented group on team seems to be O line. Elliot is a top running back. Prescott about #10 this year? Cooper is solid, appears to be about the same/similar to Stephon Diggs.

You have to have talent on both sides of the ball, and their talent on offense is nice, but no where near the best in the league. Looks to be on a par with Minnesota's Diggs, Cousins and Cook. Minnesota definitely has more talent on defense. Dallas has a better O line. Zach Martin appears to be a STUD!

Garrett may be a bad HC but he did last 10 years, so he is probably no where near the worst of all time.

We'll see who Dallas gets to run the team. So far you have blamed Garrett (and Romo before him). In looking at the past 20 years (with the exception of 2007) their record has been good only when they have had a top 5 defense.

    Better draft a few defenders.

Look at the defenses Dallas had when Romo was the starter, HORRIBLE! Except for 2009 they averaged about 20th in the league for points given up.

    Defense wins championships!
