Without wishing to get political, there is a political reality that the President has been impeached. Would this not be expected to affect the Dollar and, by extension, Gold?

I think all that is baked in. Most asset classes are ramping upwards. Money is cheap and everyone wants you to buy, buy, buy.......Ive been 100% long but literally just started taking a few chips off the table and parking in cash.

My take is that when Jerome Powell said recently that the Fed is actively trying to get the inflation rate UP, everyone took him at his word. Interest rates have been rising, fixed income asset prices declining, and the specter of inflation buoys gold. The imminent signing of a "phase one" China deal is also raising expectations of a stronger overall world economy, regardless of whether it turns out to be more ceremony than substance.

That’s not true at all. He’s been 100% impeached. That can’t be undone. He may not be convicted and removed from office but impeached he is.

Bill Clinton was impeached by Congress but not convicted by the Senate and removed from office but he remains one of three presidents to be impeached. Johnson is the other one.

Them are facts. No alternative facts will change that.

Without fanning flames, at least one Harvard law professor supports @habacara... That's a hot item for debate in other forums... See here:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/20/us/trump-feldman-impeach.html

Not really and I don’t want to fan flames either.

I suppose if Congress never sends over the articles of impeachment to the Senate then maybe there is a debate. That’s all that is saying. But the articles of impeachment will be transmitted eventually so it’s a moot point.

I suppose this is a good time to walk away from this thread. No good can come out of it

Gold is at $1541 as I type

Without wishing to get political, there is a political reality that the gold market knows that Trump is still President of the United States of America and will most likely be for the next 5 years. Also, this entire thread belongs in the CU Precious Metals Forum here. :)

Some constitutional scholars say that "impeachment is a process, not an event" and that technically the impeachment does not occur until the articles are transmitted to the Senate. [Small technicality.]

The running 2 more times is simply bunk. You can run 2 more times if you finish a partial term of your predecessor, not if you are removed from your own term. [Not that that's going to happen anyway.]

For all you stackers out there...

Dow Jones closing value on 9/26/11 was 11,043.
Dow Jones closing value on 4/25/11 was 12,479.

    Just to round it out:
Dow Jones closing value on 1/3/11 was 11,670.
Dow Jones closing value on 12/30/11 was 12,217.

Dow Jones closing value today, 1/3/20 was 28,634.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that IMO the stock market is too high right now. FWIW, I have pulled some money out the market over the last couple of months and built up my cash reserves a bit. Also, I do own some bullion, but it is an "insurance policy", not per se looked upon as a wealth building financial vehicle.

Having said that, just look at the returns you'd have if you were a bullion stacker in 2011, as opposed to a buyer of the stock market. Unquestionably there are specific years where precious metals outperform the stock market, but on the whole, year in, year out, the stock market will make you far more money than precious metals.

Philosophically, I also happen to believe that investing in the Dow Jones, S&P, Russell etc. shows positive belief in the American people to create, build and produce, year in, year out, even if part of the business community is incompetent/corrupt, and the government is generally a hindrance.

Excellent points, Skyman. I do agree that over the long term the stock market is the place to park money vs. gold. OTOH, from 2000-09 gold beat stocks in a landslide. Not coincidentally it was also a fabulous decade to own coins.

Socialism sucks all over the place. This economy is booming and keeping the price of gold and silver down for the most part. Once that changes you’ll see a huge jump in the price with precious metals . That’s a fact.
