I can get these coins for exactly 1.1 ozs of platinum.
An Engelhard 1oz bar & 1/10 pt eagle.
What do you all think?

Those coins look pretty wholesome. What's the value of the bullion you'd be giving up?
About $1045 ish

Without looking up recently realized prices on those coins, it seems like roughly a fair trade in terms of value. The 1840 is a slightly better date. Probably comes down to which you'd rather own. I'd guess the platinum has more appreciation potential in the next few years, but that's pure speculation on my part and may not even be a consideration in your decision. All else being equal, I'd rather own the coins.
You nailed it! I though very similarly. I think I'd rather have the coins, too.

I think I like the Seated Dollar. Just bought an 1840.
Don’t know bullion values for trade. Love them 1840 seated dollars. First year of issue.
What a nice reverse on the 1840. I would do the trade
That's what I was thinking... only VF35?
I would do it!
Although you dabble in everything, you are a coin....and gold guy, ....I would do it
Better to have historical coin than bullion as one wise coin dealer once said to me.
Sounds like a fair trade
I’d sell the platinum and buy a really cool coin vs the ones shown

I like the strike on the reverse of the Seated $1. Fwiw, I could have seen same coin in 40 plastic and have agreed with the grade...

I love Seated Dollars but given this option.... I’m keeping the platinum.
This. Plenty of coins out there like the ones pictured here.
@asheland .... I would let go the value of 1oz worth of palladium for these 2 coins
If you are a coin guy (and I am sure you are), the exchange looks good....They would not necessarily be my choices (though I do like them)...but I have rather focused interests at this time. Let us know what you decide... Cheers, RickO

Perhaps the answer to your dilemma resides in a "right on time" box under the bridge.

I really like the seated dollar. Both would suit me just fine. That decision is up to you
Look into what $1045 would get you in an 1840 Seated dollar or an 1855 $5 and ask yourself if you'd rather have both coins pictured or just one if it were nicer.

Well I ended up keeping the platinum and just buying the seated dollar.
These are the best pictures I could take... yeah, I’d prefer a higher grade, but I love the originality of this coin and $600 seems fair...

Nicely done! If and when you upgrade, that coin should be pretty liquid if you want or need your money back out of it then.
