2019-S ASE Enhanced Reverse Proof $2999.95

Mike Mezak is selling this for $2999.95 this morning. And he says he has a quantity of 992 in RP70. The price they had to have paid for is mind boggling. Your thoughts??

There’s the phone number get yours today!!

He may have been the one who was allegedly accumulating coins. If he's done buying, I expect a pullback in price. If it was him, he must have been paying $1400 to $1500 for raw coins.

    Whew!

    There will be buyers, too.

He also said during the show...

You may be wondering how I can get so many of these when you can only get one per household. We did it by signing a lot of checks...a lot of big checks!!

It must be nice to be able to "play around" with big money like that.

My guess is he had one of them Russian bots that coinweek was talking about. Crazy world, Semper Fi!

Pinehurst has them priced even higher yesterday (Saturday). I've always had good transactions with them in the past, and frankly this is disappointing.

I like to listen to Mr. Meziak cause he seems like a very Educated man and dresses very nicely. Is that a Rolex Presidential watch he has on? Nice suits too I bet the girls go crazy over him.

I watch every weekend and I like to check the pricing on his items and of course they are all way high.

Even the ones who offered $500 - $700 here made a tidy profit if they sold to him for that.

I'm a collector, not a flipper. I have no respect for people that maneuver the system to buy up a product so they can rip-off collectors!!!

Unbelievable....Even if I had one, I would not sell it. I know, for some, coins are business...OK, for those people, go for it. I am a collector, and I have all my coins collected over the years, except for childhood coins...Cheers, RickO

Without collectors or speculator/investor there would be nobody to buy them at inflated prices.

No one likes people who "rip-off" anyone. On the OTHER HAND, you've biased the result in the question. Suppose they aren't ripping off anyone but just promoting a product? You can't very well buy TV time and promote a product if you only have one coin. The reality is much more complex than you make it.

I can remember the hype surrounding the 2006 ASE Anniversary sets. They were $100 a piece from the Mint, I believe some were selling up to $600 a set for a bit. Now they can be easily obtained for $150-$200.

I also remember the 2006 ASE set. There were enough of those that I was successful in getting a set from the mint. A better comparison is the 1995 W ASE with a mintage of 30,125. After all these years these coins are still commanding a hefty price tag. I suspect this coin will do the same given it is now the low mintage leader for the series.

It's not that complex. Everyone that was interested in this coin knew the potential due to the mint limitations on mintage and selling. These guys aren't stupid, they knew that beating the system gave them the advantage over the average collector. Most of the purchases were made by bots or people that had no interest in collecting and only to make a quick buck!

Djm thank you for the link. So there going nuts on Great Collection too like I said MORE MONEY THAN SENSE! :|

To the TV CONS, I feel sorry for the old and weak, hard of hearing, hard to see, the ELDERLY who wants to protect their Social Security MONIES/ Nest Egg only to be TRICKED/TAKEN ADVANTAGED OF/by SLICK FAST TALKING NICE SMILING / NICE SUIT / EXPENSIVE JEWELRY / CON PEOPLE ON TV making a few buck all to make a profit to keep paying for their EXPENSIVE TOYS AND HOUSES.

What's wrong with people who have no interest in collecting trying to make a quick buck?

The reality is this: Mezack and his overpriced contrived rarities are a pox on our hobby.

  • santinidollarsantinidollar Posts: 1,056 ✭✭✭✭✭

A question for the group: the outfit selling this coin lists a Scottsdale. Ariz. address. I can think of at least one other TV coin outfit (this one collapsed in a flood of unfilled orders) that was based in Scottsdale.

    Just chance or something else?

Again, that oversimplifies the entire dynamic. Making a quick buck does NOT equate to "ripping off" anyone, first of all. Second of all, with regard to the TV guy that this thread was about, he was paying well over $1000 per, so he was actually enriching people as well as maybe creating an overpriced collectible. The entire dynamic is much more complex.

"Collectors" are no more pure than anyone else. They don't buy out of a sense of altruism. They are constantly trying to make top pops, cherry-pick dealers and others, etc. Profit is neither evil nor absent from "collectors" as much as you might consider yourself to be pure and everyone else to be evil.

If your customers routinely require a jar of Vaseline when it comes time to sell both immediate and long term, then you're probably ripping off your customers as per most people's definition.

I used mine to fill the last hole in my Dansco. That's 45 of the proof missing only the 95-W. Next year I'll start a new Dansco.

The TV guy is a bit too slick for my tastes. But the OP's statement was more generic than that and the dynamic is, as I said, more complicated.

Isn’t this limited edition of 992 solely the seller’s creation? I mean, it sounds like he submitted a truckload and 992 graded 70. Is that the fact that is being spun into some great opportunity?
