Hi Guy's, Remember the old show, To Tell The Truth? Well, How many here can truly stand up and say, " I am a TRUE Cherry Picker"? Now I'm not talking about just searching for the obvious variety/error coin. EX; 1955 Cent DD... I'm talking about cherry picking coins that most don't know about. Thanks guy's in Advance :)

"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!

I will NEVER be a TRUE Cherry Picker

I am a cherry picker of premium quality coins for the grade but not a cherry picker of die varieties.

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Didn’t mean to come across that way. Sometimes, I get bored and I just write the first thing that comes Into my head.

@Walkerfan ....I didn't mean that about you at all.
Sorry you took it that way.
I meant it as a slap at myself because I can be rather obnoxious around my colleagues when I make a nice score.
(But they know how I can be and would be disappointed if I didn't act that way.....)

No worries whatsoever. I wasn’t offended but glad you clarified it, anyway. You’ve always been complementary and kind to me and I really appreciate it. you’ve always given me honest, helpful and Knowledgeable opinions and been a good friend to me on these boards. So let there be no mistake. But nothing wrong with Having a little self esteem....We are likely The same as far as that goes. lol :) That’s all part of the fun...Showing off with friends. ;)

I am not a TRUE Cherry Picker

I like Vam Silver Dollars, but I don't have any interest in too many other die varieties at this point, Seeing @DIMEMAN post some interesting Mercs might motivate a little in that area though! ;)

I'm always on the lookout for a cherry pick die marriage for my bust half set, but cherries are not my main purpose.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

The only time when I was a some time cherry picker was when I was collecting half cents by die variety. I had the variety diagnostics firmly in my brain, and I was able to spot the better ones.

The word “TRUE” appears in all of the answers. That put limits on how you can answer. I think of a TRUE cherry picker as someone who has memorized most of the books, or someone comes with book(s) and endlessly trolls dealers’ inventories. Those guys drive dealers crazy, especially at a show.

I have cherry picked coins like an 1864 Small Motto Two Cent Piece. It’s hard to believe that a dealer could miss that, but they do.

I have truly been a cherrypicker since I was a young whipper snapper searching bank rolls outside a Manhattan bank on Liberty Ave in Brooklyn NY in the late 50's. Just imagine pulling IHC and FEC out of cent rolls. Them's was the days. Peace Roy

Not at all, one simple goal: Slabbed NON-CAC, non-toned AU and AG under melt. I get the thrill of the hunt, ability to easily liquidate for profit $$$ and use proceeds to add a bit at no cost to collection/stack. $0 DCA up in here. Semper Fi!

Nice. But per the OP's standards IHC and FEC would not count as cherry picking.

I been known to unwillingly upset Dealers. Whether, at shows or at some B and M shops. I decided years ago to give up on collecting (meaning keeping what I buy) or even grading coins. All I do now is Cherry Pick. Just to make a profit. Flip em' as soon as I find em'. Some Dealers let me at em'. Cherry pick. Some actually told me, "I don't mind you examining them, just as long as you teach me as well." Sometimes, there is the negative reply's as well. That's when a True Cherry Picker knows how to be subtle. Not rude or over zealous. While looking through my Loupe, they're ask," What are you looking for"? I'll tell them unblemished or Cameo. In fact, I'm not really lying because that's what I look at as well. ;) I'm pretty sure many others here, esp. the ones that voted like I did, do as well. True Cherry Picker's.
Maybe, I'm more exclusive than other Cherry Pickers by only buying Cherry Picks?

I am not a TRUE Cherry Picker

It's funny I get funny looks for browsing with a loupe, dealers thinking I'm cherrypicking. Sorry guys, I can't see little problems/spots and fine details like some of you can without a loupe.

Yes, there is a difference in Cherry Picking for problem, spot free coins. Some only want the best quality what they purchase. Beauty comes first in their radar. That too can be defined as Cherry Picking. I'm talking about only Varieties or Error coins. I frequently buy cent, nickle, dime and Quarter rolls. Only seeking for those Cherry's. 44d/s Cents, 64d/s Nickles,82 No P Dimes and too many to mention Quarters.

I have cherry picked a few coins (i.e. AH Kennedy's, CC/O Morgan, a few others)...but those sort of 'jumped out' at me when I was looking at coins at shows.... So not a true cherry picker that goes searching for (and finds) such things. Cheers, RickO
