Here's another concept. I like the idea. They spend the same either way.

I do not like the landscape done that way (standing up instead of laying down flat), but do not mind the designs themselves.

Change the $5 bill and $50 bill, not the $20.

Seems to be a very modern influence... The idea of capturing historical events is terrific idea. I would rather see it packaged in a more traditional design

I love the layout and the complete change in look that catches us up to the rest of the world. As @coinkat states, it just needs more of a traditional style to it (not actual photos). Our currency of today is tired and lame now.

  • divecchiadivecchia Posts: 6,688 ✭✭✭✭✭

Not for me as it stands with it drawn in the portrait style. I may be okay with it if the design were drawn in the landscape format.

it has a certain appeal and it seems most replies thus far reflect a resistance to any change, even a change to something that has been pretty static for about 80-90 years. change for the sake of change doesn't make sense, but change to a more durable material, aesthetically pleasing designs that reflect our History and core beliefs seem fine to me.

Yes the polymer note needs to happen to save money. I always like the educational note series and think a modern version of our successes would be fantastic

Complete revision of all plus addition of $200 and $500 denomination - design for all denominations based on 20th century themes, heroes, and events.

Elimination of cent thru quarter a new half dollar about half size of current dollar coin.

Absolutely not. It looks like foreign money. God forbid we keep some tradition.

I would agree. And I think a horizontal orientation would be more appropriate.

That being said, I think all of the coins and currency currently in use should be redesigned. Not just state quarters and a few cosmetic changes. Back to the Saint-Gaudens era, but instead of modern computer-based sculpting, back to the human made stuff. Tired of looking at boring, mish mashy looking, non-silver versions of Jeff nickels, Roosevelt dimes, Wash quarters, etc. A hundred + years of Lincoln, nine decades of Washington, seven decades of Roosevelt = snooze time.

I say use whatever design they want for stamps...and of course they do.

But currency is our money which we need to survive, and should simply stay the same for numerous reasons.

The government should stop trying to fix what ain't broke.

People in this country want the govt to save money until it somehow affects them personally. But what I've noticed is, even though people lose their mindsover change, they tend to adjust pretty quick. But politicians have to make sure to win another election so things happen slower here than anywhere else on Earth.

Looks like a movie poster for a sci-fi movie. And switching from landscape mode to portrait? Hmmm. Yes, vertical designs are cool, and fit in our cash drawers the right way, but....who's idea was this in the first place? Might we dig deeper than the 60's for something historic to put on our money? Or should we update into something really current and maybe have Lady Liberty looking at her cell phone? Plymouth Rock.
