Lost out on this 89CC a couple days ago... thoughts?

Was an underbidder on this 89cc and now that I have had time to reflect, I am kinda glad I didn't win this coin. While I like the look, im starting to think it wouldn't have graded AU and I am starting to think its dipped... What do you think of this coin? Its crazy to see when the bidding is going on what you over look

A non bidder would have been better.

You may want to consider buying several cases of soft Kleenex if you plan on buying non graded heavily counterfeited coins, to dry off your tears when you find out what you really bought.

Cleaned to an unattractive, dull white. Be happy you lost. A problem coin all the way.

I thought it was a VAM 5 with the dropped right C. But, there are no accompanying die cracks on the reverse.....can't vam it. Stay away.

That coin has a look that does not inspire confidence.

@skrill90 maybe make your next post not about a coin on eBay. You know, just to mix things up. How about a coin that you own?

"...... kinda glad I didn't win this coin..."

People who have a chance of not losing their shorts on raw coins that are this expensive don't wonder. They know what they're doing.

From those photos, I wouldn't be confident of anything, except that there is an excellent reason it's not already slabbed.

wowzers, jumpin jimminy, gadzooks, I think you got very lucky that you swung and missed on this one. sheesh.

looks tooled on eagle chest and XF cleaned

I stay away from 'private listings' now that it is next to impossible to contact or figure out under-bidders

At best, cleaned and unattractive. Be happy, you won by losing on this one. There is a reason key date coins like this aren't slabbed...check the seller's other listings. If he has slabbed coins, then you know for sure that the coin in question has problems...

Consider yourself a winner since you did not win....That coin is not slabbed for some obvious reasons...as noted above. Cheers, RickO

Definitely OD - over dipped. May not even make AU-details.

In fairness, the image appears to be from a flatbed scanner, not a photograph, and the coin’s appearance may not be as bad as it looks initially.

Still, it looks like XF at best and for a valuable coin like this you (which is also heavily counterfeited) are better off buying an example that has been slabbed.

Overdipped and has been kicked around the streets of Carson City many times over.

Am guilty of paying more for less. You did good not paying anything.
Have an 1889 CC Morgan , to prove my point. No pic needed. It was a tussle between a seller and me. Eventually, I gave in with a condition that we go by what PCGS says.
He owes me $3 grand. I just haven't told him yet. But... if we pay to play , then the piper gets paid.
    And the house always wins.
