Are the folks opening packages at the grading companies video taped to ensure COAs don’t get separated from the submitters coin? Seems there has never been a scenario like this where the owners sending in items to be graded have no idea of the details (COA #) of a key item being submitted.

I've had orders from the Mint in the past where boxes opened so easily, practically on their own. The glue on the boxes aren't even close to being as good as the USPS boxes. Why is it so hard for the Mint's fulfillment center to put tape on EVERY box? One of my boxes is the larger size and has no tape and some I've seen on eBay DO and don't as well. I'm hoping the rest that show up all have tape. The last thing I want is PCGS calling me saying they suspect the package had been opened and are not slabbing the coa, especially if it was signed.
I just filed a claim with the mint for this exact reason - ordered two of the presidential medals and while the box was delivered, the coins were not since the glue strip didn't seal and the box was open throughout the shipping process. Not a single strip of tape to ensure the box stayed closed.
I've never seen boxes come from the mint taped before. Sounds like they weren't all taped though, how unusual. Maybe just the signed COA's were taped! ;0

I just received my last couple boxes tonight, and one didn't have tape. So, 16 coins total, 1 no tape, 1 two pieces of tape, the rest had 1 piece of tape.

Hi,
New here....I have always liked and collected coins, but I never focused on buying new ones or getting them graded. I usually just dig them out of the dirt or sand, or get them out of bank rolls. This ERP has me intrigued.
What are some COA numbers that would command a premium in this issue? I have one with a pretty neat even number, that I might try to sell.
My plan is to submit it as unopened to get the COA slabbed, even though I peeked at it. Are all grading companies requiring that the shipping box be unopened? I closed it back up and it looks just like it did when it came. Is that considered wrong in this hobby? I just can't fathom shipping it off not knowing what is inside.
Do you mind posting your name and address? Please?

Is that because someone you purchased it from/had purchase for you opened it up to take a peak? I have another one at my PO Box. The one that arrived at my home came taped on both ends.

I doubt it. All of my buyers have no clue about coins stuff, so didn't care about them. Plus, the cardboard was still "stuck/glued" and unbent, so I think they came this way.

I understand it is wrong to sell a box as unopened, when in fact is was. That's obvious to anyone.
My questions were related to getting it graded and the COA slabbed. Why would the grader care if the brown shipping box was opened to slab the COA? Are all graders requiring this? I understand this is new. And, are they in fact requiring the brown shipping box to be unopened or just the coin and/or blue box?
Like others have mentioned, shipping it off totally unopened or even selling it that way is just opening myself up to possible fraud. I have been scammed on ebay and when selling gold.

It would be considered fraud anywhere, including in this hobby.
I wonder how many of those selling on ebay have been compromised this same way?
The real question is whether PCGS can tell when they get it.
This just shows, by the way, that it isn't "dealers" or "collectors" - it's just some people.
I received 2 sets that I had bought for $600 each. The box on one looked dinged up and could have seemed like it had been opened. I don't know that it was, but it looked it. The other had the tape slit but appeared unopened. I opened both boxes and sold the coins as "opened" even though I got $75 each less for selling them that way. I wasn't taking a chance on my customer being either unhappy or unable to get it slabbed.
You either have a moral compass or you don't.
Like your compass which told you that buying more than one for your household was ok?
I didn't buy more than one for my household. I PAID PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD $500 TO $600 EACH TO BUY ONE FOR ME.
You want to come at me, get your facts straight first.

we've already seen signed coa's with different (higher) numbers on different threads.
Those were signed live at Baltimore. They are easy to tell apart. They are dated with the signature. The signed COAs from the boxes are numbered (1 to 100)
But, it is a fair question to ask: is one of the 100 "lottery" COAs worth more, less or the same as a COA signed in Baltimore. After all, it's the same guy signing them.
Does not look like it is going up now more to me. Others who are not on eBay are selling direct graded FS 70's $2150, 69's at $1000.,
There will be several thousand of these graded, more than several other silver eagles have in 70 grades. Even before this week ends there will be more of these graded in 70 than the 1995W with only 382 graded. .At some point it is that supply that matters to modern registry collectors.
The much higher COA prices don't make sense to me, but someone sure likes them more than money.

I think you are right on the 70s. I think the 70 premium will come down.
I'm not so sure what the long term value of the raw/69s will be. My guess going into this was $1000 short term and $500 longer term. It's looking more like $1500 short term and I wouldn't even hazard a guess at the long term at this point. I could see my $500 number ending up correct, but I wouldn't be surprised if $750 or $1000 ended up being the "right" number.

That is absurd. They are each entitled to one for their household. They are not breaking any rules. Nor am I. They are simply choosing to sell the coin they are entitled to possess for their household. You can keep trying to make the case, but I and my suppliers stayed within ALL rules to acquire multiple coins.
On the other hand, you admitted to opening the box and then attempting to make it seem unopened. That is an active measure to create a fake "sealed" box.

I just got off the phone with Customer Service @ PCGS and yes from the moment the item comes into their possession they are under total survellience cameras. She even told me the boxes are OPENED before they go to grading. She was very kind and totally understood the question and why a person might ask. Gives the customer a piece of mind at least for me. Thank you PCGS!
When the package openers at PCGS see one of the signed official first 100 COA's it would be nice for them to mention it when they send out the note to the person involved that they received the submission.
Kind of off topic, but I’m thinking of getting mine graded and am not a collectors club member. Would getting the free cert certificates be worth it for this, and does anyone know how many services they would cover? For example, first strike, gold shield, the COA, etc? Thanks.
@Goldminers said:
Since the COA's are Gold Shield, do they come with TrueView photos?
From what I understand yes true view is included. I checked the gold shield only because I like the gold shield shield. I also added the $10.00 for Trueview by mistake but they always catch those type mistakes when they total the accessories. I also wanted First Strike as I think it will bring more should I decide to sell in the far future. If you open the box then you have to send in your coin before the First Strike Cut-off date which is listed on their web site somewhere.

Thanks Gluggo, I have been waiting to see a Trueview of a COA with real low number at PCGS.
Did you ask on the phone for your COA number as they did open yours I think to say it is in the system? My guess is that customer service does not have that information.

Mine is still in grading but I don’t think they would be happy with me asking. But I am sure there are some who did. I am okay with waiting. I am not really expecting to get a signed one. Hopefully by next Friday maybe it will be graded. I hear the a True Views might not show up right away. We will see.

Despite more than one bot group claiming victory in successfully overcoming the U.S. Mint’s Nov. 14 ordering restrictions for the 2019-S Enhanced Reverse Proof American Eagle silver dollar online, Mint officials deny those assertions.
Well, this'll become fun if more disinformation is spread...

Inventory of NGC ER 69's beginning of last week was at 125....today there are three left
They added 25 FDI 69's at $2045 on Thursday and they have gone nowhere since. I think $900 for FDI is out there since they ALL were FDI. This price will drop.....
As I mentioned previously I gave up on Pinehurst...way too many labels and grade varieties (13) to keep track of but their prices are unchanged.
And then here is one at $1025.00 with minutes left. Not sure if this one is opened which might explain the lower price. It just said “ confirmed “ The lure of the 100 signed Cert must be the driving force.

The march up continues (kinda). NGC 69's remain at $1199 and they are down to 12 left from yesterday's 31
I have given up on Pinehurst since their labels have expanded from 9 (which was a pain to track) to 16 different types.
I will add that their 70 grade prices got a bump up to $2713/$2810 (from $2228) for the ER/FS and $4461 (from $4364) for the FDI's
They do have a crapload of 69's available at $1164 unchanged
The ungraded ones are still trending up. Looks like averaging in the $1300's range overnight.

I think it could be worth more in a couple weeks. I think it is almost definitely worth less in a couple years.
$1100 today
I'm rather surprised they didn't sell out at $1000 yesterday. LOL.
