Hawaii $1 - Genuine - one small nick from perfection.

I recall JK saying he "discovered" this piece. Something about a cigar cut gone awry with the nick at 5 o'clock. Anyone recall more details? What a beautiful coin!
"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." Very nice.
Such a tease...
While I'll agree that the coin is beautiful and like the fact that you pointed out the scratch (the second characteristic I noticed) it is a shame you imaged it in a TPGS slab so I could not point out the other things (first & third) I saw. I'll not comment further until the grade on the label is posted and maybe not then either.
Pretty
It’s been for sale for a while.
I believe it sold on Heritage first, then a show dealer had it in his case for some time. Next it was auctioned on GC. The GC winner has had it on eBay since the auction.
It’s a cool looking coin, but the damage can be seen. I think it’s worth more than a typical details coin, but less than the current asking price.
What is it graded?
UNC Details - Damage
Too bad about the damage and prior cleaning...has great detail ....Cheers, RickO
Lots of lines in the fields too. Attractive secondary color
Latin American Collection
I'd grade it Unc Details - for multiple reasons.
But it is still attractive.
I've seen this a few times over the years and like it even with that mar.
I don't feel the toning is secondary as the "pull away" happens when there's die grease present.
Drat! I had a Hawaiian buck and ...sold... it.
Now I want one again.
Waaahhhhhhhh
Curses, Lakesamman ..!!!!
Wait.... now I know why I sold it. It had rubber band stains.
Actually, "corroded" is a more precise description. Be glad it's gone.
In spite of all the comments, I liked it in hand and so did JK.
It's obviously in a "Genuine" holder.
