Hi everyone,

First time posting here in a long time. I just got back into collecting again after a 4 year hiatus and figured the best way to get back into the hobby would be the Dansco 7070 type set. I’ve always tried to specialize in a particular series or denomination but end up always coming back to type sets. Now with 15 coins left to complete the set I’m wondering where I can go from here. I’ve been drawn to halves and silver dollars but frequently get bored of trying to collect by date and mintmark. Any advice on breaking the repetition that comes with date/mintmark collectong? Also would love some feedback on the type set. My favorite coins in my set are the Seated Half w/ Motto which is a high XF with a really nice dark purple toning and a lot of original luster and my 1880-S Morgan with a great near-DMPL reverse. Thanks for reading, Mike.

World type is where I’m taking it. Dollar sized coins from each continent first. Then maybe countries. South America has my interest now.

Nice set going there. Looks like you’ve got a few easy ones and a few harder coins to go.

Looking good. Quite a good mixture so far. Type sets are the best and make really good display pieces.

I've been doing my own type set project since I feel the original Dansco is lacking . Check it out :)

  • Nice 7070! Mine has been a work in progress for many years. Seems like the first thing I go back to when my interest in the hobby returns.

I was recently contemplating the same questions about what to collect having just completed a 2 cent set. I decided to just look for type pieces that caught my eye to see where that takes me. Have to say, walking around the ANA show without the focus on a specific series really opened my eyes to some wonderful coins.

Very nice set you are building there... As to 'what next?'....I would say just float for a while...go to a couple of coin shows, perhaps pick up a nice coin or two that attracts you...meanwhile, think of unique possibilities.... One other member is building a set of doily CAC coins... or do a registry set...lots of possibilities. Cheers, RickO

Yes, very nice! You're in the home stretch, some of those last coins are the most challenging..
And there are a couple of rather obvious upgrades you can do, too

I'd focus on this project more than on "what's next", you might discover that one of the remaining types sparks your interest in subtypes or even series

Nice looking 7070 you have going, good luck on finding the remaining coins for it. As to what's next well its a big world of coins out there so I'm sure that you'll find an interest.

Awesome that you got this far... keep up the good work! I got to within 3-4 coins of finishing some years ago before I had to sell. I'm starting back up with this set too.

As for "what to do next"... I'm thinking the Gold Page of the 7070 (if you can find one for less than about $70!). I'll likely keep gold pieces slabbed instead of putting them in a book. I'm also thinking about 18th C type too. For a "series" I completely understand your dilemma. I get bored with plugging date/mm sets into books. That said, I'm considering a date set of Morgan Dollars in AU. They held my attention when I was a kid... big, shiny, silver! More esoteric, and also from my childhood, a set of Mid Date Large Cents by Redbook variety... I'm still a sucker for copper!
