Just got this nice set of 5 English Cathedral medals. Only a couple tiny marks. I am happy with them.
I hadn't bought any in a few years so seeing the set got me to open the wallet. Is the market dropping on these? I felt like I got a pretty good deal. Not that it will matter since I plan to keep them for a long time. The details in these medals have always mesmerized me.

@gummibear....That is a beautiful set...I do not know what you paid, but it looks like it would be worth a good price...If I saw a set like this....well... could definitely get my wallet out....Cheers, RickO
Nice pick up! I had been watching that set.

When were these made? Very cool set!

Boy, those are special !
I even like the wear on the velvet inside the box. I can just imagine the fingers getting those out to look over all the years.....
We’re they in a recent auction? Very cool set!

They were made between the 1840s and 1860s form what I understand. My favorite site for information and pics on these medals is this. http://www.historicalartmedals.com/MEDAL WEB ENTRIES/THUMBNAILS/BELGIUM/WIENER-EUROPEAN CATHEDRALS/brand new thumbnails.htm

I picked them up on ebay last week. Just happened to look and got lucky to see a full set. I have rarely seen sets offered.

Very nice set, really like the original box. Just started picking up a couple of these, focusing on places my wife and I have been. Paid $275 each, seems lower than some of the pieces languishing on eBay (if that counts). Also saw some higher prices looking at older auctions. As I recall seeing this set for sale you paid a bit more than $200/medal? I would say you did well. I read that Wiener lost his eyesight before he could finish his full set objective. Not surprising considering the amazing detail. Beautiful medals.
WOW Those are gorgeous and I’m envious. I’ve always found his work to be amazing. I would be proud to own that set.
Congratulations 🎊🎉🍾👌🏻
I plan on picking one up soon. Which one would you say has the best 3D effect?
I was watching those but figured someone who collect those would jump on them. Did they come from Belgium? Nice pick up glad someone here got them. Congrats
Of these five the St. Pauls and the Westminster are the nicest for the 3D effect. I think the amount of details on the sides as you go back in is what make them pop. Other ones I have always liked are Aachen and Toledo where you get the two point perspective. A few are a bit too plain but still amazingly well done. When I see a nice copy of any of them I start to get interested.

Congrats! So you're the lucky one. I posted it here about a week ago or so that it was available on eBay and it was out of my price range (I already have 3 out of the 5 medals). I thought numismagram is the one who bought it, only one bidder must have been you. Congrats again and enjoy those Wiener medals.
@gummibear
I have the St. Paul Cathedral in both English and the rare French version. A few months ago someone posted a photo of a German version. I got hooked on this from early last year but I think I will slow down and only hunt the cathedrals that we've been to or planning to go in the near future.
Congrats & enjoy those medals.
Congrats on the newps @gummibear! That is an awesome.
Always liked the way they either “jumped” at you or “drew you in.”
Thanks for the showing!

Bought this on the 5th this month, arrived yesterday. Posting seller's picture for now but I will take picture of individual medals this week and will post once I'm done.
