I am looking at a modern gold coin being offered by 7 different dealers on eBay, six in France and one in Canada. $90 price spread between high and low. The ads have similar templates and there is a very small mark/nick in the same spot in all photos. My best guess is that some of these folks are blood relatives.
This is a reasonably common practice between two or three dealers. It is typically nothing new or nefarious. Selling coins is an "eyeballs" game - with enough exposure, the coin will eventually get sold.
IIRC, this topic was hashed out on this forum earlier this year.
I had a funny experience with one of these situations. One dealer I had dealt with often had the coin as the owner and it was marketed on a few sites including Park avenue....when I found that the coin was in fact sold by the owner I wanted to see what response I would get from Park avenue...”let me check our vault” it started out and then “oh the guy with the vault key is on lunch”...”oh the coin sold just this morning”. Such nonsense.

One of the dealers told me that he would have to check with a coworker who had taken the coin to a show.
Then he said it sold at the show.
I asked him how it looked and he said he was impressed with the cartwheel luster.
I didn't bother to tell him that I had a tracking number for it.
Sometimes dealer interactions can be funny.

I've seen 6...Not kidding
The lowest price usually has physical possession.
One time I bought the same coin from 3 dealers at the same time.
Think I caused a 7 car pileup in Florida that day.

There are wholesalers / retailers that do this also.
You can see the same coin on Heritage, NCW and Park Avenue Numismatics all at once.

Dealers, you may offer my coins on your site if you so wish. It will make your inventory look killer
I can drop ship.
Additional marketing by others for my inventory works for me.
Shouldn't the non-possesser at least say that the coin is also being offered elsewhere?
Yes, or say "subject to prior sale", for example.

This guy is the KING of relisting other peoples coins, over 2,000 coin listings that are not his:
https://ebay.com/sch/dreamtrophy/m.html?_trksid=p3692
2251 listings with 21 transactions in the past 12 months. yep, your right. just doesn't add up
Why?
If nothing else, that's probably a violation of eBay policy: telling them to look off ebay to complete the sale.
What type of response did you get from each one?
Did you get the coin?
No. I bought it from the other 3 dealers at the same time.
I am 100% sure that Northeast is in possession of the coin. They are great people.
hmm interesting. Ill have to reach out to you on this over the weekend
Yep I did.
Had to pay 3X the price but 2X was returned
What can i say...I really wanted it.
