Newest addition to my Seated Dollar set

I recently picked up this 1860p $1 PCGS AU53. She is an absolute gem. This is a date that is extremely underrated in the LSD series. It is almost impossible to find an original crusty example. A simple search on eBay or heritage or any other online coin retailer will quickly reveal how difficult this date is to find nice with any semblance of originality. They are simply not available... As I’m writing this only 13 coins in circulated grades have earned a CAC. Would love to hear thoughts on this addition to my set.

Looks like a very nice addition and I bet the color is quite attractive in the right light.

Why do you have to keep the cert number a secret?
    What’s the big deal?

I simply cover to prevent counterfeiting. Don’t want them to know the cert that goes with this date....

I like it, looks familiar too with hat squiggle above the shoulder....hmmmm.

The squiggly is on the holder. There is a read mark hit there beneath it. Did you own it in the past?

Were you the caretaker of this 1860 at one time ?

Very nice indeed....a coin to be proud of...Obvious commercial activity, but early preservation. Cheers, RickO

Nice coin. Am I in the minority thinking the graders had a bad day before they put a number on this one? I own a few seated Liberty coins and am by no means an expert but if I were purchasing this as a raw coin I would have expected nothing less that AU55 or AU58. I must be wrong seeing the CAC sticker, guess I have to get tougher!

Thanks for sharing her JBN. Only a guy building an LSD set knows how truly hard it is to obtain them with even the slightest claim of being original... very cool

Indeed, a very nice example of a tough date. The CAC sticker confirms my thoughts of it being slightly under-graded. Other than the ever so slight wear at the obverse high points it should have made AU55. For some reason, at least to me, the AU grades become blurred. Just my take on the subject.

Interesting. A green sticker means solid for the grade, not ungraded. A gold sticker would indicate undergraded. So while it may be undergraded, I wouldn't read the CAC sticker as a confirmation.
