1937 D Buffalo Nickel

Are there any 4 legged 1937 D minted from the die that were polished to produce the 3 legged variety? Just wondering.

They were all normal Nickels when they were first struck......the dies clashed later and created the variety.

This coin should be called a three and one half legger, and not a three legger even though they are from the same die.
And they should have their own distinct FS number in the cherrypickers guide.

Wouldn't the normal struck '37 D issues from this reverse die still show some of the reverse die markers ? Like the distance of 'E-Pluribus' from the Buffalo's back, for example.

Those markers were caused by the abrading process itself.

Bill noticed a slight difference in the positioning and tilt of the Mint mark between the one pictured above and the one we know and love. I'm hoping that might be some kind of an artifact of the image. Every other die marker is the same. However, if there is a difference in the Mint marks then it would have to be from another die.

The E PLURIBUS UNUM on the 3 Legger is farther away from Black Diamond because the area was heavily abraided after the clash, making the buffalo smaller.
