I agree with Mark. Definitely looks recolored....especially in the first photo...even the 2nd one.
The color itself, then where the tone changes in a line across

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Unfortunately the obverse toning is due to my poor imaging skills.

Counterfeit coin. Coin has the markings of a known die-transfer:

Was this a test?? If so, members passed.... ;) Cheers, RickO

Not really a test, but I am always interested in thoughts from folks who haven't seen these. I have had these tested by a top metallurgist with early copper experience and he views them just by the science as genuine. With 4 of these in genuine TPG holders I have asked my group at what point do these become "accepted" as a new "genuine variety"...

Initially, I questioned the color on the obverse. Then, I questioned the "C" in CENT and the relation to the leaf in the wreath... I don't think I've ever seen that before on this issue... now I know why!!

Actually lkenefic this one is accurate to a genuine 1806 C-1; so accurate it picked up the circulation marks of the source including the damaged "A" and scratch over "L". This is the 7th example found with 4 of them in genuine TPG holders.

So, this one is made from dies that used a genuine 1806 C-1 as a template?

Had examples professionally photographed at ANA; there are actually 2 "die states" for this series of struck counterfeits. The 1st I call the "cut A" for the cut on the "A" of HALF, the second the "filled A" for the apparent attempted repair job done. But you can see the other matching marks and scratches. You can even see die doubling at the date on a couple. The images are both taken through genuine TPG slabs:

It is a copy of the 1806 C-1, Small 6, Stemless.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
