Don't forget ... they use the weekly average to set pricing. In this case it will be from tomorrows close to September 11th close. By this coming Monday we should be able to estimate the average and be a little closer. Baring any big uptick on Sept. 9 & 10.

I think the Mint made a big mistake on doubling the mintage stated to 30,000. These will be a very tough sell at nearly $2,000 each.

As long as they don't sell less than 15,000 do they care?

They might not care, but if it was left at 15,000-20,000 more people would be interested in buying right away and that increases flip demand. Now some are just waiting to get them later.

Does anyone know the reason for the one week delay?

I agree with most of this. The idea of urgency fuels sales. But they have to balance that against whatever cost/profitability they can achieve. If they are more profitable selling 18,000 over 2 years than 15,000 over 2 days, they might as well take the long road.

Can they sell 2019's in 2020? There are only 3-1/2 months left in the year.

For "coins", they have to mint them in the year on the coin. They can sell them till the cows come home. Go on the site and see how many 2017 sets are still available. And look at the Innovation buck reverse proof, they minted them last December but didn't even start to sell them until August 2019 - they are dated 2018.

The only reason they might cut sales of these short is because I don't think they will mint them all at once. Based on what we learned above about their leasing of the bullion, I suspect they won't mint all 30,000 and sell them till sell-out. As a result, it will depend on how many they ultimately decide to Mint. I'm guessing they would do 10-15k before release and then sort of judge based on any backorder that develops.

There is nothing in the law to prevent sales in later years. There IS something in law that requires Commemoratives to stop at year end...

These things are impossible to categorize. LOL.

They don't circulate but have a denomination: NCLT? Coin?
They are PM but special finish: bullion? Specimen?
They are part of a series commemorating Liberty: Commemorative?

Can't we put them in just about any category we want?

They should put them in the 2019 proof sets!

Now that would make for an interesting discussion. A proof set with a very expensive PM coin included.

First ounce of Palladium I ever bought was a real cool Panda in a wooden box for $150 spot was $125. Now I'm seeing presales over $3k for one stupid ounce. You won't see any offers to buy. Anyone wanting more than one will wait for day two.

    Keep that Panda!
    Avoid the Stupid ouncers!
By the way, an ounce of gold is basically the same spot now as an ounce of Palladium.

The LBMA AM fix and the PM fix have happened for Wednesday.

Current pricing of the 2019 Reverse Proof Palladium would put it at $1.937.50

Palladium is still trending back up $17 so far today at $1,565. No way to know where this will really be until next Wednesday, but really is another $50-100 extra going to really matter? It is already expensive enough to hold back a lot of buyers.

This series has helped me ease away from my tendency to jump on a new bullion issue, and maybe to buy extras. With all the premiums, markups and grading costs, I just can't get as excited about spending the money as I used to.

    Decent design though.

I will probably stay away from them this year since there is going to be 30,000 of them.

I too am one of those borderline mint slaves. Love the 2018 but need a price of about 1550 to get one of the 2019s and am extra put off by the 30,000 montage authorized.

If the Mint lists a low mintage, the issue sells out in a few minutes. Loud whining and crying begins immediately.

If the Mint has a monster mintage going, a subdued whining and crying starts very quickly. If there are few orders, then another round of w & c begins based on final mintages.

In the end, regardless of mintages, customers have hit the exits. Never looking back.

  • MilesWaitsMilesWaits Posts: 5,416 ✭✭✭✭✭

I would be purchasing one of these because I wanted it. I could give two craps about the high or low mintage.
I tend to hold nearly everything I buy from the Mint if it is for collecting. If I want to sell something, it will typically be bullion.
I will wait this out to see what happens with spot price and buy one later, graded by PCGS as a 70. If I pay more because spot price goes up, so be it.

I see Bullion Exchanges Is starting their PCGS 70s on a pre-sale at $2950!
    $1000 markup.
You may have to pay that to get a clean silver liberty in a true 70.

30,000 is a lot....but how many did the mint make for the launch, will we see UNAVAILABLE or PRODUCT IS ON BACKORDER on Thursday or Friday? Will the price tag diminish sales? Will this third Palladium flop? How badly do you want one of these? Keep it raw or grade it? If you get one and it has a mark/scar on it, would you return for an exchange? I've wanted one of these for awhile, but two grand is giving me second thoughts....but it's such a great design! If it were made of Gold, that would be quite the coin!!!

    Just venting some random thoughts.
