My article on fully struck SLQ's

This is the article I wrote while in recovery for 8 weeks after surgery on my foot. I added the pictures when I got home. It is in PDF format because of the length. I hope some of you might enjoy my thoughts.
Have a good day, Gary

@1946Hamm ....Thank you...I have just skimmed through it, and will read it thoroughly later...Looks very informative. Cheers, RickO
Good article! You might want to add pictures of the patterns, too. See this thread: https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1006455/the-best-standing-liberty-quarter-i-ever-saw

Nice work Gary. A few thoughts that might be of interest.
The design proved to be hard to strike up fully because the design was much more intricate than the previous Barber design.
The main problem was that the body of the eagle was opposite the head of Liberty. Secondary difficulty was the full-diameter obverse portrait which required uniform flow of metal into a relatively narrow width of the figure. There was simply not enough metal available to do this in most instances.
Some speculation as to why the chain mail was added and many have different reasons.
No speculation needed. The designer asked to redesign the quarter in January 1917 and he added the chain mail as a symbol of protection of Liberty.
First year for the recessed date variety four.
Recessing the date was proposed by Henry Franc, Jr. in a letter to the Secretary of the Treasury dated January 21, 1924.
The article would benefit from knowing your definition of “full strike.”
Nice study! As you say, there are a number of dates/Mints that simply don't exist with a full strike. I have found the same thing to be true in the series I have studied-Buffalo Nickels.
Downloaded.....to savor later.
Nice reading...very nice examples. Darnfine photos.
The link seems to have disappeared so here is it again. The things I look for is the 11 things listed on page 4. I think full heads are nice but I look for full strikes to go with the full head. Some of the new forum members might like to see my article.
