These can be a bit challenging to grade. The coin is still sitting in a 2x2 cardboard holder.
Any thoughts on what it might grade by our host? Under a halogen lamp there are almost no hairlines. There are small marks here and there. Luster is muted.

Assuming I'm reading the fields right, 53? Regardless, looks nice!

I grade it AU55.

AU 55
Reverse looks nice, but obverse has a shot at grading cleaned, in my opinion. The area between the stars and the bust (in the field) are too shiny looking to me. If they let that past, I see a nice AU grade. Worth a shot for sure.
AU-55 !!!
I would say a 53.... field chatter and reverse wear... Cheers, RickO
Not sure what it is selling for but you could get one in the same grade in a PCGS holder for about $350
Not for the Old Reverse style. It's about a $1300 coin.

My error--thanks
I was at au55. Potentially cleaned?
Lock in at 53, 55 on a good day. I like it a lot.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
AU-55, although i’ve seen similar coins in MS holders.
I don’t see cleaned as an issue; it’s slightly circulated.
Very nice coin. Agree with the AU55 consensus. I don't see any signs of it being cleaned. Definitely worth getting slabbed. Let us know how this coin does at the grading service if you submit it.

Thanks for all the great input. I was thinking AU-something as well. The wear is just about zero but the chatter in the fields do point to this coin seeing some handling. I think I'll send this in for grading along with a small group soon. Win, lose or draw, I'll post the plastic.
One of the few times I think I actually get a "feel" for a gold coin's luster from a photo. Could it be lighting, or the lack of a thick slab of plastic between "us" and the coin? I look forward to photos in the TPG slab. Nice coin!
Grade is in. As usual we have sharp minds here: AU55
Nice coin, also at 55

Congrats!!
Very nice old reverse 👍
Why would this be a challenge? It's clearly EF.
