How good was Kareem Abual-Jabbar?

He lost one game in High School, one game at UCLA. He won a NBA title at Milwaukee. Then Five more with the Lakers. They changed some of the rules because of him. Dr. J said "he's the best player ever.'

Great old school center...can't compare eras. Amazing how bigs shoot, pass, and handle ball now. I do agree...he was great.

If you are younger and didn't get to see him play, check out some Larry Bird videos. Still amazing how he could handle the ball and the shots he made. But yes, Kareem was great in his time.

Put it this way, there will never be another Kareem. He's the all time scoring king for a reason. Master of the skyhook. He was a basketball genius.

Hard to compete with his accomplishments. Abdul-Jabbar was a record six-time NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP), a record 19-time NBA All-Star, a 15-time All-NBA selection, and an 11-time NBA All-Defensive Team member. A member of six NBA championship teams.

When Wilt was setting scoring records, he was the only seven foot center in the league. Plus the majority of the centers, Bill Russell being an exception, were guys who couldn’t compete athletically with Chamberlain. Kareem went up against some of the best centers in history, and played in three decades, adapting to each change in the rules and evolution of the game, and still being great.

I dont think there is a modern player who could match up with him. Centers want to shoot 3´s now a days.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Imagine Kareem playing nowadays where if the defensive player farts on you it's a foul? He would average 50/game.

Ruled out dunking in college because of him. Whenever rules are changed to try and level the playing field...there isn't a bigger statement of your superior ability than that. Throw it down Big Guy! There wasn't, isn't or will be another like you!!!!

There was no defense against that skyhook.

I always thought that was Wilt at Kansas - the no dunking rule - though I make plenty of mistakes.

My father played against him in high school when he was Lew Alcindor at Power Memorial. Said he was very raw but super talented.

That might have been the case w/Wilt...then after he graduated, dunking was reinstated. I remember that dunking was illegal during the Alcindor era because of him. Big Lew was quicker and agile than Wilt the Stilt.

That is cool your Dad played against Lew Alcindor in high school!

He was the best I ever saw- the sky hook had no defense.
He actually wanted to be a baseball player instead. The original big unit.

He played against his future coach,Pat Riley. As Lew, his Power Memorial team lost to a Pat Riley High School team in 1961.

Not to derail but, Sixers' coach needs to be fired immediately for having Embiid set up above the foul line on offense the entire fourth quarter.

Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes.

And when given the choice between fish and steak on a flight, choose the lasagna.

I always thought of Wilt vs Kareem as a great example of brute force vs finesse where brute force often netted large booty but not a lot of strategic hardware. Pun intended.

As a life-long Celtics fan, I disliked both players but always respected the hell out of Kareem.

Wilt was great but Russell (another finesse guy) neutralized him. Kareem had no such kryptonite.

    My 2 cents at least.
