I had to read up on it. Of the few handfuls known there probably aren't many that look that nice. Great pickup!

Nice surfaces for a coin of that grade. Fewer circulation marks than would be expected.

That is a PCGS estimate and may be a little out of date as NGC claims to have graded 39. Still a rare coin and very desirable. Apologies to our host and I do not visit NGC often and cannot vouch for their accuracy, but when considering a purchase I check survival estimates from both services.

Less than 100 known...atta boy! love it. There was a 1868 just sold on Heritage last weekend for about 2K, another less than 100 known. There is no better rarity/price deals in numismatics than lower graded $5 half eagles.

Not sure we will ever know the exact number of survivors. NGC claims to have graded 39, PCGS Coinfacts shows 51 PCGS coins. There must be some raw ones out there and some that detailed, maybe some graded by other companies. While some may have been to the grading services more than once, I am not sure anyone can give more than an estimate of survivor numbers. Suffice it to say it is very rare and that coin is lovely. Nice pickup.
