That is one thing I wish I would have sought out sooner, unopened. I think 78 was my oldest item. I have always had trouble with it though. It's extremely hard not to open anything for me. The unopened Garvey stuff I do own is almost my only exception.
I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.
Of course, I started this to see unique stuff I may not have already, but have not contributed much myself for others to see.
I uncovered these the other day and thought I might share. I'm guessing some of you have seen these in a more widespread form, the UD Heroes 8x10 prints. These are the original paintings done on canvas and mounted on a wood frame. I bought a couple of these years back and unfortunately missed out on at least one other. True one of a kind pieces.
The last one I have seen as an 8x10 as well. It is an original art piece done on a thick art backer board sheet (I'm sure there is a better name for it that I don't know). Perhaps the owner of the painting had some 8x10s done later? Not sure it was made for anything specific otherwise, as I have not seen anything else like it. This has also been signed and dated by both Garvey and Bench from August of 1987.
I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.
How rare (print run) is the 1989 Michigan State Pepsi #44 card? I tried to locate a checklist for this set and can't even find one...lol
I honestly have no idea how rare it is. Part of me thinks 'It's from 1989--how rare could it possibly be?' but then I hardly ever see these offered for sale. So maybe it's more rare than one would think.

It's a crudely made, multi-sport set that looks like it came out of some collectors basement. I am assuming it was some sort of fan giveaway at some point. I bought several full sets many years back on ebay. Can't say i have seen a lot since. it's like almost any minor league set that is team issued at some point in a season for a giveaway (not the full sets that sell at the concession stands for years and years unless a star comes out of the set later, then they dry up). They seem to completely disappear after issue, most never to be seen again.
Then again, this might have been a broder type set, like the 1981 RC Cola cards I see now and again, expect for Rickey Henderson, which seems to come up for sale all the time, one after another!
I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.
Just got this incomplete Venezuelan sticker album from the late 1970s, and it includes a sticker that features Steve Garvey, even though his name is not listed anywhere.
I've been seeing this thread pop up a few times over the years and it always reminds me of this item that I've had since the 1980's. 1985 Topps foils stickers mounted to an index card with a though-the-mail Garvey signature. Pretty unique:
Have this David Sunflowers Seeds point of sale advertising sign from 1985 promoting the sale of Sports Illustrated posters for $1.00 (plus proof of purchases). While they used Cal Ripken Jr. as the background image, the posters shown include Garvey:
IMF
Successful dealings with Wcsportscards94558, EagleEyeKid, SamsGirl214, Volver, DwayneDrain, Oaksey25, Griffins, Cardfan07, Etc.
Very cool SI poster advertising piece. I wonder why they chose to feature the same Trammel card twice as the bookends? They cut out his name on the left image, but not the right. Love the piece though!

Did you just win that on ebay or had you owned one already. I lost out on the one that just sold.

I've had this for years, I did see the one on eBay last weekend (which was slightly different; mine is larger & die cut on top) and made me think to post mine on here.

The Irish American Baseball Society has some unique items just signed by Garvey to benefit the Irish youth baseball program. I just picked up a signed green St. Patrick's Day baseball bat.

There’s at least 50-100 out there, and likely more, so I wouldn’t cal it rare, but less than a handful have popped up on eBay.
Garvey signed these at the Topps booth at this years All Star Game Play Ball Park(essentially all star game fanfest)
Yes, I saw those and want one, but they seemed to be selling in the $150+ range. That is just too much, despite how unique they are.
Until Covid, there hadn't really been a strong market for Garvey stuff, then all of the sudden it felt like 2002-05 again and I am still not sure what happened to drive the recent frenzy. Maybe a lot of new collectors got into it with each other, who might soon realize that nobody wants those cards they pushed each other up in price for!
I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.
Yes, back when he retired, there was a lot of talk that he might pursue a political career. That never happened obviously and his personal business got a little crazy for a while, which probably hurt his chances. Maybe he figures that is all behind him. Wouldn't be the first baseball player to run for (or hold) office and likely won't be the last.
I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.
Thank you for posting a large scan. Been trying to see if the one I have is the reproduction/counterfeit or whatever we are calling them. None of them are easy to find, but I suspect mine is not original to 1972. Will have to dig it out now.
I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.
Let me know if it is available and if so, how much you want for it? I have the poster for this. It might have been a prize, as i see no mention of it here.

Garvey beat Carew for the year, 176 to 167. I'm sure someone with baseball-reference skills could find the answer quickly. That site has some deep dive tools, but I don't know how. I only know how to go into each game for each team and manually tally them. I'd be curious to know too, but not enough to do that amount of work to find out!

They actually tied; 31 hits apiece in June.
This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

Interesting. Thank you for looking that up. Now I have to ask, was there a quick way or did you have to dig through game by game?

I somehow missed this. I like it and being from the Seattle area and remembering the 79 ASG well (although no chance this 10 year old would have been able to actually go), I would definitely count that in my Garvey collection.

On baseball-reference go to the player's page and look for "Splits" in the menu bar below the players' biography. Click on Splits and a sub-menu comes up showing each year of his career. Click on 1982. Scroll down a little bit and there's a section called Months that shows you the stats for that month.

Those are both great packs, but that 1974 is just off the charts, not many of those floating around @hamilton888

Steve Garvey is considering running for Senate in California. Interesting.

Here are a few just back from grading. I plan to sub these to PSA in hopes that they will successfully cross over.

Improvement of Child Caring and Garvey mentioned in the same ad is unique indeed. LOL

So who won?

This card was from Steve Garvey's current US Senate campaign in California.
