I have many fond memories of living in SF in the 70's. So much diversity, talent, great food, culture, etc. Peace Roy

I enjoyed living in San Francisco area - Mountain View, CA....Was in the city often....Would not like to see it now from the reports. Cheers, RickO
I don't know that it's my favorite, but it could have been minted the morning of.....
This coin is at NGC right now getting reholdered (original case is all scratched up) so I hope to have proper pictures soon but:
There is a fascinating film in existence taken just a few days before the quake where somebody strapped a camera on the front of a trolley and rolled it down Market Street nonstop for many blocks. The film was then shipped east for development and it escaped the quake.

The Berkeley, California Royal Arch Masons chapter produced this "Masonic Penny" as almost all Royal Arch Masonic chapters do. It has the lodge charter date of April 18, 1906 which is a historic date in neighboring San Francisco.

Edited to add: There were very few automobiles in San Francisco in 1906. The few cars seen circle around the cable car numerous times. These were obviously staged for the film.
Here is a Dime from that year and mint. The shaking might have caused the RPD.
Library of Congress page also has descriptions of the landmarks along the way https://www.loc.gov/item/00694408
A film of the aftermath was discovered a few years ago and this is a side-by-side comparison

Congrats on that coin! That is a real strike rarity for a 26-S. They just didn't make the majority of them with that much detail.
Very rare.

the crusty look, I like
I looked at the 1914 Lincoln and thought: WOW! What a nice proof. Look at the detail on the surface of that one!
Then I thought: Strange. That entire coin is hammered except for the T in TRUST.
Then stupid me realized that the coin had a Mintmark!
I don't know what world I was floating in but I guess I'm back.
I hope.

BTW, John-that '26-S is a beauty!!
As a Liberty Nickel collector, my choices are limited.
7.9 (1906) >> 6.9 (1989).
Glad I was only here for the 1989....

Growing up in California, the San Francisco mint was always my favorite mint and I hoarded common circulation-strike S-mint coins throughout my childhood. This was perhaps my favorite SF coin that I've owned:

Commems and Early Type
While not a coin of monetary value, it was the only Lincoln I had to purchase in order to fill-out my number 2 Whitman book as a kid in the early 60's. My late brother and I would constantly needle each other that we would be the one to find a '55 s. It was an introduction to Littleton.
