I was thinking AU55, until I turned the coin over and I ended up at AU58. How much larger/worse could the reverse digs/cuts be before a details grade would/should be assigned?

I'm at 55,4 shot 56.9, but you've got be a full 57 to get a 55+. This date comes nice for a CC, and this piece has very good frost for a circ, better, in fact, than a PCGS AU58 CAC of the same date I just sold, but the gouge mark on the back, well-obscured as it might be by the busyness of the devices, stops me from a full 58.

I’m at 55 but I think that gouge makes it’s a candidate for a NG.

Walker Proof Digital Album Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Wow, I really could not have seen this at all and am with Marcmoish. I posted a 55 some time ago that would in all likelihood be a choice over this one. Well, love those CC 20s in any case!

I agree with those like Mark Feld on the reason for the grade; 58 is about right. PCGS overgrades as many $20 coins as NGC as far as I've seen, but it doesn't look like a cac.

Of course the coin has not changed but if you are a buyer today you won't get too many coins offering XF money for AU 58 coins.
The "cost" per actual condition is identical. It has not changed. Only deceptive labeling has entered the picture. Yes, this is difficult to conceptualize.
if you are happy with the coin and it's cost to you, then you have received full value !

NG someone was picking at that spot.
I can’t see the gouge on the reverse from my iPhone. Can someone point it out?
Looks 55.
That gouge is not big enough to doom a CC.
Look to the right of the letter D. after the word TWENTY.

It's not a gouge, dammit, it's a mark
Got it, thanks Mark

Nice EF. Too much wear to be AU.
Maybe so in 1974.
Not so now.
The coin has not changed. It is EF; nothing more or less.

That would be a AU55 in a PCGS slab.
Also too fast

I would have guessed 53.
No way will this ever cross or get a bean.
