Alfred Robinson copy of the 1733 Rosa Americana in Copper NGC MS65BN (Dies by Joseph Merriam)

Connecticut banker and numismatist, Alfred S. Robinson, had this and many other copies of Colonial coinage struck in the late 1850s to early 1860s. The dies for this particular piece were prepared by Boston diesinker, Joseph H. Merriam. They come in brass and silver as well.

New purchase which is double struck with rotation. Edward Cogan in his 1877 Bangs auction description Lot 732 already considered these then 11 year young copper versions very rare.

I picked up another Masonic Medal. I must admit I didn’t event look this one up so don’t know any back history.
I purchased this one simply based on the die work. I am in amazement that every detail was thought about.
The only place there is no design is fully prooflike and superb color and condition. I hope you enjoy it as much
as I do.
