people will speak their opinions ,yes sometimes opinions aren't nice but remember those are just what the person thinks doesn't mean they are right or wrong it's just how they see things
So the worst thing that can happen if you are polite and try to help an apparent newb is that they might be a troll. Seems like you are still the winner.

One of the clubs I am a member of has had active young numismatists; that is the life breath of the hobby ultimately, and the club does everything it can to encourage them. Many years ago another hobby I have been in, chess, realized that it needed to encourage the youth as much as possible and it is thriving now in and out of schools.

Nah. Heather doesn't pick fights with the old curmudgeons... of course, she can just nuke them if they bother her
I can't help but wonder if the animus directed towards some of these posters on coin forums is turning legitimate newcomers away from the hobby. Don't complain about the hobby declining or dying when you're turning others away.
We have no humor. All that is missing is the thread where we share pictures of our lawns and us yelling at kids to stay off of our turf... Maybe we will see this in the near future.
I'm used to being bullied. My wife bullies me just about every day. The last incident was about Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Boy, that was a scolding I'll never forget. I didn't realize having sprinkles on a doughnut was so important. I can still see her eyes turning red with anger. Sprinkles, the stuff nightmares are made of.

It's possible. I've said it before: coins is stamps 20 years later. If you think the coin folks are a pain, you should see some of the stamp folks. They treated every newbie like they were an ignorant child and told them that they were "collecting wrong" - as if that's possible.
Some of "us" (who will remain nameless) immediately jump on any newbie thread with sarcasm as though every newbie is a troll. Somehow, "ignore" isn't in the vocabulary of some people.
Even with a "parking lot find" thread, the first person could politely say: PMD. And if everyone else could just calmly agree or simply ignore, we wouldn't have all these spats.
@jmlanzaf . Thank you kind sir and again for holding back judgement on me when I was in the “Smells like a troll to me stage”. last year. Admittedly I am sometimes hard headed and sometimes need explanations spelled out loud more than once

I have tried to answer these questions about supposed doubled die and error coins on another site. There have been two problems. First some of them post ten pictures, the most you can post in one message, asking for help, and the keep doing it, over and over. They don’t seem to learn anything from you previous comments even when you go into detail.
Second, some of them get testy when you explain to them that their “treasure” is worth face value. When they do that, I just ignore them. At lot of what they have are damaged coins, not errors. Once more nothing sinks in, no matter how often you try to explain it.
I understand that there are videos on U-Tube that get these people started. The information appears to be bogus for the most part, but it seems to be convincing enough that they are taken in.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
My observation has been that forum members have generally been very patient and polite when dealing with rudimentary or oddball questions. However, some members are unnecessarily rude or sarcastic at the outset. My suggestion to them would be to treat the OP as if they were a 10 year old YN (which may be the case). If the OP is a jerk or a troll, they show their true colors soon enough, at which point they should be ignored, not "fed" (notwithstanding the entertainment that may ensue).

Since we are not the developer of this forum we do not have control over that feature, however, I have heard that most people have this feature built-in.

I can field 5-10 inquiries a week generally on whether someone has a 1976 Unique Philly No S Ike Dollar I own. I have cost PCGS COUNTLESS thousands of dollars of grading fees by actually taking the time (hundreds of hours) helping these people (exhaustingly explaining MS vs. proof) and not just telling them to send their $1.10 coin to PCGS for grading. I stopped a waitress from quitting her job, because she thought she received a million dollar tip from a customer. A Priest thought someone left a million dollar gift on a Sunday donation. I did find my Plumber when I helped a Plumber from Georgia last month tell him he had $1.10 and he took the time to research and recommend a fellow Plumber to me. Maybe he got a referral fee. Lol.

I think SHE may recognise sarcasm
Just because some do not comment on everything and time and time again does not mean a collector isn't here.
