Real and ruined.

I still wouldn't turn it down.
Neither would I but it would have to be damned cheap.

The Bechtler coins were crudely made; probably best to run this one by an expert on territorials like @Regulated .
From the photographs this one looks like it could be Kagin-25: a scarce reeded edge variety of the common A. Bechtler $1 gold 27G/21 carats.
However the "1" on the photographed coin looks too short...which makes me think it is not real.
I think you should send it to me for further inspection...
I have no idea about authenticity, but it looks as if it were nailed to something for a while - much like the old superstition of nailing a coin above the door 'to welcome money in'... Cheers, RickO
I think I should have set this up as a vote; but oh well. Thank you everyone for your comments thus far. Does anyone know of anyone on the forum that would definitely know if this is genuine or not?
Thank you all again
Similar to a K24 and K25, but there are enough differences to suggest this piece may be a crude copy. The Coin Facts photos were helpful for me.

it does not look real to me, but i'm not expert enough to say with absolute certainty. what bothers me about the authenticity is the lettering. none of them look right. they are close, but not like any i have seen before.
oh and if it says "beachtler" on it, it's definitely not authentic ;-) lol
Have a jeweler test it to see if it is gold
Authentication of this item should not be attempted from a photo. Send it to PCGS if you're curious.
i agree. the potential upside is more attractive than the risk of throwing away grading fees.
if it is genuine...it's worth more than melt...even in that condition.
It is a somewhat commonly encountered contemporary counterfeit of a Bechtler - I've handled many similar pieces, which - despite being counterfeit - run in the $750-$1100 range when they're wholesome.

Hmmm...A "wholesome" counterfeit..... ? That's like "Walter Breen's Child Care Centre."
Whew, don’t know whether to laugh or cry.... but agree.
Cool piece. Fun to imagine how it came to be holed. Looks like someone was not happy.

Definitely had a rough life, but still an intriguing coin.
