made me wonder how many U.S. coins depict horses, starting with the Lafayette dollar.
We will stipulate that New Jersey coppers also show horses, but that they are not U.S. coins.

Another one of my favorite designs with a horse ....
I immediately think of this coin when horses come up. It’s a beautiful design.

You already mentioned the Lafayette, but here's a photo:
One of my all time favorite sets to look through is the horse theme collection BRG has. It obviously includes world coins and not just US coins but it is an amazing collection and great theme.
Not mine

This one looks very horsey to me....
Well it’s not a US mint product so it may not technically qualify for this thread. Made by Baldwin & Co. to help with the shortage of coinage in the pioneer west during the early gold rush years. The SF mint hadn’t yet been established so private coiners stepped up to try and fill the need, some more successfully than others. Many of the makers chose to mimic the Liberty head/eagle design of the day, but this Baldwin $10 “Horseman” stands out as a totally original and fun design. There are only a handful of survivors and very popular (and expensive!) with collectors.
I got a few

First thought of this one....

I like the 1995W Civil War proof
Cool thread. Lots of coins I've not seen before.

happycollecting - don't you mean 3 horses?
From Coinfacts. There is at least one more in the First Spouse series. A lot of these designs are ones I would not know about without looking them up. Same with many modern commem designs.

It is a good design in my view. I do happen to have a proof, but this photo is from Coinfacts.

Good catch, @RogerB. I actually believe there are 4 to 5 horses racing here (i.e. 4-5 strikes), after magnifying the coin and counting the strike lines. The TPG label simply said a Multi-Struck though.
That is an insult to horses everywhere!
I forgot about that one.
That was the commem that reopened the floodgates that had been shut since 1954.
Not US, but pretty cool
And a personal INSULT to women everywhere.
When will this forum every stop insulting women, Susan B Anthony did so much for this country and yet the sexist's here always bash her.
I do not get it.
When will Heather put a stop to these insults?
Frau Blucher
While I agree she did so much for women's rights, which were definitely needed........she makes a GAWD awful coin.
So it comes down to looks?
That is insulting to women. I have a mother a wife and a daughter. My best client is a woman. I do not think they would be amused by your comments.
The image on the Anthony dollar is awful. The reverse is no better but the eagle does no resemble Pegasus coming in for a landing. No one was insulting Susan B. Anthony for anything she did or said - but the image on the coin is an insult to her.
"but the image on the coin is an insult to her"
Dude, that is what she looked like ......
Awesome coin!
What can you tell us about it?
