For me the grade in most of cases doesn't even matter. It comes down to the coins availability, how much I'm willing to pay, etc... If it's an easy to get coin that's affordable to me then I'll consider the grade, but there really isn't a specific grade that matters to me. My half dime collection ranges from P01 to MS67. My focus is on completing the set but that is not to say I wouldn't upgrade some pieces if possible. Here's a few of my 50's. I didn't realize until this thread I actually have a number of them:
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
The coin, for me, is the product... and I make my decision on the product. There are great AU50 coins... as shown in this thread, and I would be proud to own many of them. Focus on the product... grades are an opinion... and my opinion counts more. Cheers, RickO

Of course I would buy an AU 50, I prefer an AU-58, but..
I wouldn't turn down a 50, if I liked the coin

I'm working on a circ 144 commem set. Need about 35 Would I buy an AU50. In a heartbeat. Especially the 38's & 39's.
Lafayette Grading Set
Heck yes. I own coins from P01 to MS67. Why not AU50?

Definitely, as long as the coin is eye appealing. If the coin was a dog and graded AU50 then I would pass.
Yup, no problem with an AU50 coin.

I knew this thread would draw some nice images. Well done folks !
I wasn't aware that an AU50 carried a stigma like an MS60. I'd disagree (if the button still existed) with that point.
