I was watching this too. I thought when it hit $400 it was too much. No extra points for CAC of any color in registry sets. If it’s a crack-out candidate it better comeback 65.
For comparison purposes, here are the coins that are in my collection.
This is an NGC MS-65.
Here is an AU that is in my raw $2.50 Indian set.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Wow... that is some premium.... No doubt the OGH/CAC gold was the driver....However, I believe the buyer is buried in that one... However, he/she may not care.... Cheers, RickO
The buyer way overpaid IMO but it’s his money / hobby. I looked at it carefully during the auction and it appears to have some run especially on head dress and possibly reverse. I would never bid above the grade on the Holder!
The coin is $365 retail $265 Whsl in AU58. What a prime example of the sticker craze! I was going to bid $275 but when I saw it going over $500 I thought unbelievable this is just nuts. This guy bought it way over MS64 money! Possibly some millionaire who collects gold sticker stuff. Hope he enjoys his coin.
I look at David Kahn eBay offerings often and have bid on / won some but this one has got to make him happy lol.

I guess I get the CAC thing, but rub is rub - 25 years ago or today.

Looks like an early bidder won this one. Bid was placed 3 hours ahead of the end.
Wow nice coin and holder but stiff premium.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Seems like the premiums are going up for the older holders....and CAC. Paid less for a real nice ms62 CAC not that long ago.
It also fits the "everyman" sets, and, a lot of times, the AU58s will go for a premium because of that.
Not a series I do, but I will ask......how does it look compared to the look of comparables? How about to a nice MS63?
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Wow, it sold for 65 money. That’s some serious premium.
Coin has garnered much forum attention.
silly premium paid
forget gold CAC, it should have been platinum
BHNC #203
Meh.
Lucky seller, unfortunate buyer.

Dave is probably smiling on this one. Damn cac gold people just pay the moon for these especially the 58

The coins I overpay for are often the ones that are easiest to sell without loss, later on.
But, I did not buy this one.
Wow, nice piece, but bought for strong money !!!
Gold Cac on a 58 is the most useless informative of all the stickers
