1885 CC GSA Question & Grade?

Just recently won an auction for a 1885 CC GSA. A couple questions for the finest. I'm not sure if the scratches are on the coin or the plastic. Would you have coin Restored? Or would you just have it graded? Will PCGS put GSA on the label? What kind of grade do you think I would get? I've been out of the loupe for awhile. Thanks in advance!

Definitely leave it in the holder as is.

PCGS will grade it they encapsulate it in a larger plastic holder.

Impossible to give a grade opinion from that image the way it’s tilted and the light is hitting it is completely hiding the surfaces.

    Nice looking coin.

    Looks nice, DON'T touch it.

Depending what you paid, and how PCGS sees it, will determine how good of deal you actually got.

Certainly leave in holder and very nice coin if authentic. I'm no expert but always skeptical. What's going on with the gals ear?

How do you not know if they are or are not on the plastic? Certainly you have it in hand, right?

In hand you most certainly can tell.
By the lighting and pics, I see a 63+, or better.
Pics can hide lots of crucial points as I myself can attest to.

It looks to me that it might well go higher than MS63, but the photo is hard to judge for sure.

I do have it, but it's in my safe. I will take a closer look. Blitzdude her ear does look funny, now that you mention it.

Leave it as is in the original GSA holder. Need better pics to determine grade. Good luck, it's a nice example !!! :)

Very nice CC Morgan... Leave it in the holder... based on the pictures, I would say 64....Better pictures could change that....up or down....Cheers, RickO

Agreed, could be lower if the photo is hiding some hits. I would just keep it as-is unless it is a slam dunk 65.

Thanks for info. Do they crack it open to exam the coin?

No both services grade it in the holder. It is worth more in the original holder, and brings a better resale price if it’s graded by NGC . Most GSA collectors prefer them graded by NGC so they can be stored in the original boxes, and not encased in another layer of plastic.

4+? 5? Seriously guys? Slight adjustments to the image of the obverse show it's a 3 at best.

My PCGs 64 is worse off , than this one

I’m not trying to hijack your thread but here’s a 1885-CC just back from NGC:
